exNokiaFan, 21 Aug 2010Its quite funny how you say I need to cope with reality. Ho... moreSorry but you seem to missing the big point here. You speak about profitability as something very important. The stats say one real truth here (I am sorry you missed it), Apple is losing market-share. Why? Because it's no longer special. All the handset makers has gotten closer and they will eat of the Apples market-share. American kids prefer Blackberrys, touchscreen lovers have all the Motorolas and HTCs and Samsungs to choose from (have you seen Galaxy S), there of the huge Android jump.
All the experts say Apple can't fight this war with only one handset, the market is too big for only one phone.
And S40 does not count as smartphone, feature phone at most. Nokia, Samsung and HTC have a budget touchscreen line where they fight their big cheap smartphone war, it has nothing to do with Apple.

Like i've mentioned before I've owned plenty of Nokia's top phones in the past 6 years. Their track record of power performing phones are known. Nokia N8 performs well you say? Thats quite contradicting from the hands on reviews i've read so far. techie buzz, pocket-lint, and many other sites has had hands on reviews of the N8. From their impressions is not impressive at all. Is this to say that Nokia won't do a 180 and put out the N9 which would be toally different? who knows; however going by track record the N9 would be nothing more than the N8 with a keyboard using MeeGo(maemo).

r 3 b 3 l, 21 Aug 2010Firstly, the n900 wasn't a flop. It met expectations and is... moreThats what a company does no? A company works towards profitability. Met expectations by who? Nokia says it met expectations but how many times you see a company openly admit their products were a failure? RIGHT. Selling comfortably? As of the end of May 2010 Nokia has sold under 100,000 N900. I don't know about you but those sale figures are abysmal. Considering Samsung Galaxy S selling sold over 1 million units within weeks and Iphone figures same, Motorola Droid figures are very high just in the US alone.

nomorese, 21 Aug 2010Sorry but i have to comment on your stats. Here are some RE... moreAlso heres another reality check for you. Nokia as of July 20th was looking for a new CEO to replace their current CEO Kallasvuo. Last time I checked if your company is doing good you don't change your CEO's. The Board of Directors isn't a game of musical chair, you don't change seats just because the music starts. If Nokia's almighty 41% of smart phone market was as awesome as you make it sound, why the need to change management? yeah.. i thought so hard to answer right? I don't know what you were talking about as none of my post never mentioned anything about market share, it only mentioned Nokia's track record at producing a competing high end smart phone. However since you want to call me out on market share and company performance I am glad to give you rebuttals anytime you want to make a statement out of context and try to use it to prove your point.

I find it silly when people debate on 'best phones' and 'profitability'. What does it profit you if nokia make a trillion pounds? What does it profit you if they don't? What does it profit you if a samsung is better than a nokia when you can't afford it? Who cares? What rational people want to know is what mobile performs and is value for money. The n8 is as good if not better than any mobile out there. And cheaper than the lot too. It performs. Thats what matters. Not which has the fastest processor, bulkiest ram or largest battery.

nomorese, 21 Aug 2010Sorry but i have to comment on your stats. Here are some RE... moreIts quite funny how you say I need to cope with reality. However it is you that seems to be out of touch with reality. First off lets talk about these numbers and break it down yes? Smartphones are basically any phones that run on an OS allowing it to use productivity applications. Nokia's smartphone portfolio consist primary of low end phones such as the Nokia 5230 and C5 running versions of Symbian S40 and S60. This allows Nokia to sell a wider range of "smart phones" to lower budget groups which is why nokia can sell so much and dominate in market share. How many of Nokia's competitors have a smart phone that sells for less than 200 euro? lets compare apples to apples(no pun intended) How many of Nokia's phones are able to compete with comparable smart phones from companies such as HTC, Samsung, Motorola, and finally apple? Basically none. The N900 was a flop, sales number proves this. N97 did actually quite well but burned customers due to how much hype was brought up yet the phone was also a big let down.
Instead of using market share to prove your point about how well Nokia is doing why not use profit figures? Nokia's profit Fell 40% from figures as of July 2010. Sure they're profitable, but even with a 1% profit a company can be considered "profitable". Market share really means nothing, look at Microsoft's market share dominance in the browser side. They hold much more marketshare than mozilla, opera, and safari. This is however because they were around much longer than the competitions, and IE is much more readily available because it comes with every copy of MS windows. Much like how Nokia as a mobile phone company is around longer than most of their competitors and their "smart phones" are much more accessible to the general masses because of the low prices.

exNokiaFan, 21 Aug 2010Also accord to ITU-R both LTE-Advanced, and 802.16m is cons... moreSorry but i have to comment on your stats. Here are some REAL numbers for the 2 first quarters for this year. Sure Apple is the most profitable handset maker but after that it gets worse. These numbers are for smartphones only!
NOKIA
Grew 15%
Market share 41%
Was profitable both quarters
RIM
Grew 11%
Market share 19%
Was profitable both quarters
APPLE
Shrank 4%
Market share 14%
Was profitable both quarters
HTC
Grew 36%
Market share 8%
Was profitable both quarters
Samsung
Grew 22%
Market share 5%
Was profitable both quarters
Motorola
Grew 35%
Market share 5%
Made loss Q1, made profit Q2
SE, LG and others are too small to matter. As for "only by OS" numbers...
Symbian +11%
RIM +11%
iOS -4%
WinMo -36%
Android +409% (amazing)
So please have a read and cope with reality. I am personnally amazed that Nokia managed to grow their smartphone marketshare and sales even though their new lineup is yet to be released.
I got the stats from Communities Dominate Brands, a very good blog done by Tomi Ahonen, mobile industri expert

exNokiaFan, 21 Aug 2010Also accord to ITU-R both LTE-Advanced, and 802.16m is cons... moreTechnically you are accurate...
Yet as I said...
The reason Nokia doesn't make 4g devices is because their main markets like Indian sub-continent, China and Africa only have 3.5G networks..
These countries don't rely on the internet as much as US and Europe..3.5G speeds are more than adequate for now.
Rather, they just need cheap, feature packed, incredibly reliable phones with the basics like good cameras, great call quality and good messaging.
And this is just what Nokia delivers in all their phones..

Also Japan isn't the only country with full LTE, Stokholm was the first city to have a publicly available 4G network. Japan tested their 4G network some where in 2007. Japan's WiMax started testing in June 2009.
