14 September, 2010
Nokia World went off to a flying start - the Finns just announced three new Symbian phones. Meet the Nokia E7, C7 and C6-01. They are joining Nokia N8 to the Symbian^3 party with 720p video recording of their...

Nokia, you are spot on with the nHD resolution on E7 and other new phones. This way i can install existing apps without any ugly upscaling/zooming.

You are talking about electronic hardware, not hospital patients in a coma. If i am not wrong you are reffering to something called dedicated memory? Anyway.. Virtual memory is the most important memory in App usage and multitasking. I dare you to increase your processor performance and take away the virtual memory. Good luck!"

Maybe you should increase your vocabulary. "Discrete" as in "dedicated". I have no idea what you are on about with hospitals nor does it have any relevance to what I perviously said. I do not require Wikipedia for my vocabulary, maybe you should consider it instead.

Open up your computer, pop in a 512MB RAM stick then increase your virtual memory to whatever you like. Now start a RAM intensive program such as a game with the maximum settings possible. Now put in 4GB of RAM and repeat. If I have enough RAM, I can decrease my virtual memory to zero yet it would not affect the performance of the system, same holds true if I add a lot. Infact, it won't even use the virtual memory I have allocated until my physical memory has been used up.

Virtual memory is basically software emulated memory (or virtual RAM if you must). It's a lot slower than discrete memory (or to make it easier for you to understand, "dedicated memory"). You can't make a slow computer faster without modifying its hardware. This means that you can't use software (virtual memory) to make your computer faster without adding more physical RAM sticks. Now apply this to mobile devices.

What can I say. I thought that Nokia will announce something bigger. They are the number one, but... The E7 flagship phone has 256 Mb of Ram. HTC Desire has 576 Mb of Ram. The Sony Ericsson X10 has 384 Mb of Ram. About the CPU. It is NOT even mentioned! It will have a 680 MHZ CPU in my opinion. I don't bash Nokia, don't get me wrong Nokia fans! I just say the specs. They are left behind in terms of CPU, Ram, camera(I am talking about HD). Sony Ericsson is left behind at making phones with big internal storage.

          Wow :)
          ty4the updates.

IMHO, I can never understand why ppl would need to use a mobile phone with full sliding keyboard. Desgin-wise, I'll be considering to buy the C6-1 because of its compact design and rich features.

          Cheers,

640x360 pixels stretched over 4 inches on E7 - picture is going to look rough and pixelised like on my old SE K750.
              FAILURE!

nHD resolutions in hi-end devices? Nokia really should wake-up, 800x480 should be the minimum for devices like E7 and N8.

For some reason i was excited about E7, until i checked the screen resolution and found it's nHD (360 x 640 pixel), What's up with the nHD resolution Nokia? it's only 60% of WVGA resolution (the most common res in the smartphones these days) , and 37.5% of apple retina display.

nHD in a 4" display is only 183 DPI, thats low compare to other high end smart phone in the market.

Nokia you need to quadruple your resolution and make it HD 720*1280 display.
