I hope their realize that most of screen cracks is made when you hit edge of phone, not its face. And its happen because of construction of phones that have such weight center.
You can actually "bend" and hit any composite glass like gorilla glass, and it will not break, but if you hit it from the side, it cant spread that hit power, and it break.
Not to mention that most of companies make thinner and thinner devices, and that seriously not helping at all.
I think no one would feel the difference if phone would have 1-2mm more, and that not only would make phone sturdier but it could carry more battery juice :]

Every year corning makes stronger gorilla glass for phones. But the benefits are negated by manufacturers making their phones even thinner. And that includes the thickness of the gorilla glass being used as well. So its about the same strength as the previous one. Will still break easily when dropped from the same heights.

Face-down drops mean nothing. Corner drops are the real killers unless one has their phone encapsulated in a quality protective case that makes the phone 3 times thicker.

We've already heard this many times. I'm 100% sure Gorilla Glass 5 will be scratched and cracked just as easily as Gorilla Glass 4, 3, 2 and 1 before. That's just marketing nonsense to make people buy their overpriced glass.

The 'rubbish' you say I am speaking (not sure what specifically you are saying is rubbish), I can only guess is with regards to Motorola being limited to how many of their models they were able to have in the market with Gorilla Glass in them, and, THEY WERE RESTRICTED when Gorilla Glass was in short supply, based on unit sales, Corning couldn't give everyone enough,.. so manufacturers (Motorola I gave as an example, because I recall reading, and feeling dismayed for them at the time) were on restrictions and had to limit how many phones they could sell.

How can my saying a factually true, and generally positive comment about large scale corporations hurt you so much?
I wasn't trying to sway anyone away from great manufacturers or parts.
In fact my mere inclusion of them in an article on Gorilla Glass was to highlight that they are some of the legendary build and reliability type companies that I root for.
Perhaps consider the value of your words, and intent.
If your need is to put me down, why?
If your need to build Motorola up, why?
These are rhetoric,.. just keep emotions out of technical forums hey,.. or the quality of GSM will go downhill.

For the record I love Motorola and use a RAZR M as a Logitech ARX screen for my PC so I can see CPU thread utilisation and RAM consumption.
I could use them as a phone but I have all my phone needs met with other models (presently a Nokia 920 and a Note Edge).. I tried making the RAZR my go to phone, but couldn't get a Kevo app (unlocks my front door using Bluetooth) for it to work on it on Android 4.4
Even though Motorolas Bluetooth inclusions were above the industry norm and I believe has the required profiles,.. android do not support.
And I like OLED blacks, so it makes a great ancillary screen besides my PC.

Hopefully they are true about this because most gorilla glass phones screen Crack soo easily after one small fall which is terrible.. Gorilla glass is good at scratch resistant but drop is still a problem.. Gorilla glass 5 might change it hopefully.

Now we are getting somewhere. Since these new era of Android phones came around, and Nokia retired, I never for a day felt comfortable with these fragile garbage (special thanks to LG, Huwaei, Sony Z series etc.), a mobile phone should withstand a 5-6 ft drop no matter how its landing. Have we all forgotten the Nokia and Motorola bricks of past era? Yes, they had smaller displays, but I am talking about the chassis. At the same time the craziness of making phones thinner and thinner has to stop as well.

For the last few years manufacturers were playing the 'thinness' game,.. so when glass got tougher, they could make it thinner and keep it as tough as the generation before it.
Also, thinner glass allows better light transmission from the screen.
I got the Note Edge, and it is unconfirmed whether it got GG4 like it's sibling the Note 4, or whether it had Gorilla Glass 3 (which is what the spec sheet says here on GSM).
It was a massive premium in cost to get the Edge variant, and I believed, based on Samsung's comments that they had been waiting for the tech evolution to allow 'curved screens', they were waiting for the toughness of Gorilla Glass 4. (First phone announced to include it)(though Apple will not disclose who they use and have a privacy agreement in place)
I figured that they put a thicker layer of GG4 on it, and that was why the brightness was a little lower than the vanilla Note 4. (Hard to know, as the layer behind the screen on the curved variant of the phone was a plastic layer, so there were technical differences elsewhere that might also equate the difference).
As manufacturers wanted brighter screens and thinner phones,.. the last few years of progress on toughening glass was ultimately to allow less glass to achieve the same toughness; maybe now they are formulating it for ultimate toughness AND keeping the thickness, hence ending up with a tougher screen, not an 'equivalent to the last gen but thinner screen'.
When they do the chemical process they can target various metrics,.. from flexibility/pliability, light transmission/thinness etc.
They probably could have done this a couple of years ago, but shortages of the product would have encouraged thinner screens no doubt.

When Gorilla glass (and dragontrail et al) were in such high demand and could not meet market need, they allocated to manufacturers based on total unit sales...
This hindered some companies (motorola etc) as they didn't have the volume of sales and range of phones (varying price points) like Samsung, and we're limited in the amount of glass allocated to them.
Which then limited the number of models that could feature 'tough glass'.
This is one of the premium features that flagships would get that people wouldn't perceive as an essential/vital inclusion.
I lost faith/interest in the Nexus range when the flagship Google phone didn't feature tough glass (coming at a slightly reduced price point compared to the previous model..),.. and users here on GSM arena were noting how they didn't understand why their last years phone could roll around in the bottom of their bag for twelve months and, even against keys etc, only developed a couple of marks...; their 'new' (non tough glass) phone developing worse scratch marks inside of two weeks. Naturally they were pissed that high priced phones didn't live up to their expectations...
Viva la tough glass. Yeehar!

Corning King Kong Glass is better than Corning Gorilla Glass. hehe
