I use S pen for taking quick notes during calls. Before I never seemed to have a pen and paper handy. Would miss not having it available with a regular phone.

                I always loved the S-Pen.
However, if I was techRax, I would write underwater with the S-Pen on the Note 5 and the Note 8.

RainX, 02 Aug 2016Actually the answer to the POLL really depends on you're li... moreFor architects like me, yes, this is a must tool for on the go drawing to explain what you are thinking. We talk in drawing 50% of the time when we are with clients, colleagues, or developing some ideas privately for design. Meetings jotting notes is the fastest thing. Note-taking during calls too, so you are sure you have not missed anything that is needed. Drawing demonstration on the big screen TV/projector - all done wirelessly. I taught my class in design demonstrating how to tackle design problems and how to generate ideas by drawing, and this is a class of 20 students.

That Wacom active pen was something that I immediately connected to in 2011 - a portable digitizer that is small enough and has pressure sensitive inputs. Just a wow, and a must have for anyone who are into productive. I found OneNote as a more universal app that goes across all my devices and desktops, than the S Note.

And some people do not get what the S Pen is for - then don't use it, but don't go about telling it should be taken out. I'd just stop buying Samsung once that happens.

Actually the answer to the POLL really depends on you're life style/status it also depends on the type of work or simply say the way you use the phone.

                        Scenario:
If you are Going to Purchase SGN First Things First is: you should know that the phone will come along with an S PEN. (Except for those people who purchase SGN without knowing the phone) With that in MIND prior to Purchase you already know if you need the S PEN or not...

If you are opting for Gaming then You can still purchase the NOTE however PEN is going to be useless at some point or you are not going use it at all. So in these scenario the S PEN is not needed. There are a lot of devices out there in the market that suites your gaming needs aside from SGN and they don't have an S PEN. Why bother purchasing SGN and complain that the S PEN is useless while you are always on GAMING. On the other hand, if you are a person that usually take on notes specially if you are in business industry/students or lets say an environment that constantly requires vital information noted down, then the S PEN is needed. There is a big difference in encoding(using the Keyboard) and using S PEN when taking notes on a phone and I am talking about SPEED on taking notes.

It depends on your preference. weather you like it or not the SGN will always come with an S PEN. it has its own unique status and usage.

I didnt go for the Edge plus not because of lack of Pen, but because of no option of normal screen. Even if just 30% of potential Samsung big screen customers wanted a flat screen, that already means 30% less demand for the note. And I dont know literally anyone who likes the curved screen and doesnt think they are a gimmick. How could you do that especially to a serious business line. How could you do that to your second biggest brand by not releasing it in Europe and now coming in with a curved screen toy option only?!

The pen + a curved screen do not work together for obvious reasons - how would you use the pen on the curved sides...
It is evident that the curved screen is a very pretty and fashionable concept...
There must be a practical reason why the S6 Edge + didn't come with a pen last year, and wasn't named Note 5 Edge...

Anonymous, 01 Aug 2016the term 'relative' and 'depends on the user' are no contra... moreIt is called an irony, nothing more and nothing less. It is what I saw from the S Pen feature: usable to some and at the same time pointless to others. I can't explain this to you more clearly than this. And I'm not forcing my opinion to you.

If you really think that this whole thing is relative and truly depends on the user, then why have you found it funny that I agreed to someone's opinion in the first place? Does that mean that the S Pen depends on every user but not me and that guy?

It seems you misunderstood me. Okay, let me make it clear. I described your response as such because you are ridiculed by me giving the guy his point. Which simply means you found my comment absurd. There was no speck of insult nor sarcasm in all my comments to you. I see that english is not your main language and neither do I, and apparently you did not get what I really want to convey. And with that, I cannot further my reasoning to you anymore so I have to stop. But for our sakes, I apologize if I have offended you in any way.

The S Pen is cute but I can easily live without it, that's the bottom line.

Pedro-TheNeighbor, 01 Aug 2016"expensive phone maybe toys, classless but full of features... moreSo as a fans please don't ask to much from Samsung, because it is as tiny as possible to fit your pocket, everything is so well and perfect for you/fans. It is not a toy but the tiny S-Pen is classy even it is a kiddo's pen.

AnonD-541274, 01 Aug 2016The emphasis on the 'relative'and 'depends on the user' dir... morethe term 'relative' and 'depends on the user' are no contradicts with my response which you called ridiculous, both of you and that guy only see one point (no need for S pen), while I'm trying to be objective to see both sides. If we were looking for the answer, there are two answer: 'no need' and 'need', rather than choose one side, it's more right to answer: it's relative, depends on the user. You cannot deny the facts there are people comments here croaked their need for S pen, while you only agree no need for S pen.

The term 'relative' I used here means as I said before: it's relative depends on the user (take it literally if you don't understand), this is where you fail to understand.

There are no contradictions whatsoever in my opinion which I try being objective here while you only very subjective to one side (no need for S pen). I won't say mixed subjectivity and there is no mixed subjectivity here, I prefer said it's mixed answer which is relative depends on the user itself, not like you who only pointed out 'no need for S pen' and we can see many people still prefer S pen on their note, so who's being subjective here? So far the only subjectivity here is coming from you and that guy. Stop clouding the fact you are being subjective thus make me as if I were the only one and very subjective here, that's the real contradictions here if you looking for one, the only problem here you failed to understand such a simple opinion when other gave you proper and objective arguments.

You see, if you were looking for contradictions here, you can see from yours.
"It's a mind bending thought that this pen feature is an essential addition and at the same time pointless, all things considered"
--> ..an essential addition and at the same time pointless, that's we called contradictions. And I'm here just to saying whether the S pen is needed or not is relative depends on the user itself, that's me trying to be subjective here.. there's no mind bending thought here.

Thank you for your consideration for not chuckle me back, and I doubt it as we can see from your previous comments there you said "ridiculed response" or "silly", that is the same as you chuckled on my back, see? who's being contradicts here? So far, I'm not using such words when arguing with you, I only gave sharp and objective thoughts, and you were unable to understand it and saying 'ridiculed' or 'silly' which is more appropriate for yours, the only 'chuckled' word I used is from 'I chuckled when read it (that guy opinion)', that's how I show respect to you, not just like 5 years old kid. Btw, it's not about trading chuckles to each other here, it's about you were being subjective and ignorant here unable to welcome other persons' thoughts which is very simple to understand it.

the best advantage in samsung is one and only note series s pen we have thousands of smartphones now days with powerful hardware at reasonable price Even samsung can not beat them
                                      So I recommend samsung
                                      pls continue s pen

Dual heatpipes, 01 Aug 2016This is an expensive phone maybe toys, classless but full o... more"expensive phone maybe toys, classless but full of features designed for S-Pen". What do you call your Sony smartphones, then? Not expensive? Has class, yet less features? Sony produces some of the mediocre battery stamina phone I've ever read in reviews. Z Ultra tried to implement a input with real pencil, and never can produce such refined and error-free input as a Wacom digitizer pen (the S Pen, if you did not know).

The Galaxy Note is about 7-8mm thick now. What do you expect the size of the S Pen to be? A good 12mm? You are suggesting that the S Pen should be taken out all together so you can afford this. If you took the S Pen out of the equation, then might as well call it the S7s? Again, your comment that S Pen should be taken out is useless talk. While the Note 8 is about the size of an A5 notebook, the regular smartphone Note is that of an A6. I use A6 sized notebooks - they are easy to carry in my top shirt pocket, just like the Note 3.

You can always have a thicker separate thicker Wacom pen if anyone else is serious to have a better experience. I bought one for some $25 three years ago: http://flic.kr/p/dTqu8y. Lost it somewhere, and bought another 6 months back at half the price. There's a reason why the it's that thin and can be stored in the silo of the Note. It even reminds you if you have left behind your S Pen.
