Samsung drops all Symbian support by the end of December

01 October, 2010
And when we say all, we really mean it. By the end of December Samsung will close its Symbian forums, developer site and will remove all Symbian-related documentation and data from its servers. Ouch!

"Should we start worrying they might as well ditch Android or even WP7 in a year or two?"
lol! I know right! Why's Samsung to aggressive anyway? What did Symbian ever do to you,Samsung? :P
I'm just hoping Nokia isn't the next :D If Nokia ditches Symbian, they won't have anything left..!

well i have seen this coming. symbian is way too far behind and its only about time that some brave manufacturers will ditch it completely. this is a message that i should ditch nokia as symbian is failing. after almost 10 years, the os has not evolved much and with andrios flourishing i should take the leap forward backward. kudos samsung:)

Samsung just loves releasing phones with different OS's to cater the markets needs. However Samsung is poor on updating/upgrading their mobile OS's.

Not surprised at all by Samsung's actions since I own a Omnia HD and have not had one single update offered by Samsung.

I have had to rely on hyper X releasing his excellent HX Custom Roms which virtually turn the Omnia HD into a Nokia n97/X6 - SE Vivaz.

Without Hyper X why would you bother owning a Omnia HD.

As for Bada, I have a Wave and yes it is that good, but the main issue is Samsung releasing low end Bada devices when they should be upgrading on the Wave not downgrading as they are doing right now with their new release Bada devices, that to me says that Samsung have no faith in Bada as they had no faith in Symbian S60 v5.

If you own an Omnia HD, my advice is this, go to Google and search for HX Custom Roms, then download the driver package and custom rom, install the custom rom and then happily sign up to Ovi Suite to get Ovi Maps, then install Ovi Store on your Omnia HD and start downloading all the apps you want and at the same time screw both Samsung and Nokia over.

Samsung Omnia HD (running Symbian S60) was released in mid-2009, and it's only *ONE* year old, how they can stop the support for something that's only one year old!

I own the Samsung Galaxy S I9000, what if they stop supporting android next year, no Gingerbread and Honeycomb for us!

SymbianOS already be apart of NOKIA..When you want a Symbian phone you sure choose for NOKIA..Although se also made some Symbian ph0ne but many people most like NOKIA..LOL

Thats no surprise smasumg drops Symbian..because the y just only care for their ba da..but they always dont know what people needed..if people want ba da,better they choose for Android..When people wants Android>>HTC

NOKIA now is running fast on their products step especially SymbianOS..So NOKIA will made more powerful SymbianOS phone..

smasung is not comfident on this stage at all..

the only reason why a lot of you guys think symbian isn't good is because it doesn't have a lot of eye candy. Think carefully about it, nokia smartphones really perform what they're supposed to do. Maybe the 5800 had 9 updates but in the end it did what it had to do much better. Yes they freeze sometimes but hasnt your computer gotten frozen before?

All cellphone brands are thinking of way right now to find a cure for Applemania syndrome. If they don't do anything about it, all cellphone brands will close down their handset division cause as we can see Apple is trying to monopolize the market with it's fine strategy.
