Stupid comment. Both handsets run Froyo, which have support forums and developers independent of their respective manufacturer. If Samsung for any reason decided to slaughter Android support, the consumer would only have a half million other websites and blogs to go to for support.

I own an Omnia HD and have been blissfully unaware of the support. This has been a great piece of hardware but once the cash changed hands, me and thousands of others have been forgotten by Samsung. Nice one guys. Just remember, we buy top end phones because we can afford to. There are many other players out there. Maybe htc support will be better next time?

i am sick of this... just because Samsung is acting like a rabbit churning out thousand ugly phones (with exception of original Wave and Galaxy S), it does not mean leave old phones and OSs

Google Search is an example. It has technology that can guess what you want to search for... very impressive.
Windows Phone seem to have some intelligence too. it's phone book list seems to not just sort by alphabetical order or something. Maybe it analyses how much you communicate with someone by counting SMSes, Calls, etc.
Phone design has be smart lifestyle product. If it works like a regular washing machine, easy to interact and produces expected results, then it's a winner.
If it's too technical, then it will be a failure. Look at Linux, since birth till now, how many home and offices uses it?

The UI should be user-friendly enough to be easily picked up by upstarts, and all the while powerful and customizable enough to be enjoyed by enthusiasts. Android is a prime example of this.

If design is NOT elegant, you wouldn't even step forward to touch it. Only when you are interested to hold and feel the phone would you start to interact with it's OS and software. Cost plays a part too - which is why companies use labour and parts from Asia.
If the software inside the phone is not intuitive or smart. After a while, people gets frustrated. Interests start to wain... even if you are a giant supplier you will still lose market share as it's easy for competitor to steal customers away. Look at Microsoft.
Good that a sleeping dragon has awaken.... hopefully it doesn't disappoint after sleeping for so long.

Asian market is huge because they are constantly looking (competitions among phones) for better looks, features, whatever. So if you live and work in U.S., you wouldn't be able to sense any need to innovate that fast since people around you seems ok with what they have.

I don't know why some of you people are getting upset with Samsung for this move.. The game has changed.. Symbian OS can NOT compete in todays market.. its just doesn't have the dazzles the other OS's have and it sure doesn't have the sheer amount of apps the other OS's offer (iOS, Android, WM7 & soon 2 be BADA) Get with the program Nokia!! Regardless of Sammy's poor support, This move a clear one.. Symbian OS soon to be RIP.. Android is the future for most if not all phones..

Most touchscreen phones don't have space left for any distinctive design philosophies, let alone try to set themselves apart from other touchscreen devices.
And Motorola has Android, FYI. Ditched WinMo, P2K, Linux and Symbian for years now.

If design is super excellent. Looks and feel like Apple, then probably has a chance. Samsung is copying Apple to spring ahead, increase market share and then differentiates itself away from copying design to becoming killer.
Motorola doesn't even have any decent OS under their belt.

How many phones from BlackBerry has touch screen after so many years? They can't even see consumer trends. They are just business phones - probably why design sucks.
If it remains in 'business phone' category then it shall face the greatest challenge when WP7 launches. Microsoft with it's history in Desktop/Notebooks/Networking/Connectivity will easily kill it. WP7 phones got the looks and power for business executives.

OS and hardware bugs cause system hang for few series (G series) of phones that I tried. Nokia just don't innovate fast enough, sitting there thinking it can continue to milk existing consumers.
NEVER Samsung? Why? AMOLEDs are mainly produce by Korean companies like Samsung. Even Apple is using them. At end of day, companies that innovate wins. Plain simple. Sitting duck just get slain and cook.
American phone? Yes, Apple is pretty good. Motorola lose quite a bit of grounds. It's design - sucks. BlackBerry other than push mail what can you say about it? Design? Sucks too. Of all American companies, only Apple phone looks best. Seems like most American companies do not know how to design good looking phones. They should learn from Europeans.

01. If you are old user, don't worry. It's time to look for newer phone with better features. If don't like new features, then Samsung ditching the fading OS won't affect you much in first place.
02. If you are a developer, and still developing Symbian software, you should have seen the trend - a dying platform.
03. If you are a hardware manufacturer, would you support unlimited number of platform? Bada, Android, upcoming Windows Phone 7, plus Symbian??? More platform equals higher cost of business to support. In the end, equals higher cost to consumer.
04. Android is no. 1 or 2 in smartphone market. Bada still requires lots of attention to make it mature. Windows Phone 7 - lots of hype compliment from Microsoft. Symbian?

the fact is that symbian isnt the future and it is far far behind from its competitors ... symbian need to grow up .. even its new os 3 isnt fast enough to make people happy compare to android and apple ... so i guess symbian is only to Nokia now ... which is the downfall for Nokia future ... ... Nokia is going bad as of now that we are speaking .. you guys do know that right.... they are trying their best and trying to pick up with their new device called "nokia n8" ... google it ...

well, they brought down the end of their company with their bare hands! feel sorry for the people with those high end phones that has symbian OS. at least, now they'd know that don't go shitty cell phone companies like Samsung >.>
