Samsung drops all Symbian support by the end of December

01 October, 2010
And when we say all, we really mean it. By the end of December Samsung will close its Symbian forums, developer site and will remove all Symbian-related documentation and data from its servers. Ouch!

Symbian is showing its age, so I hope Samsung pools more resources for the development of its Android phones after its support for Symbian closes for good.

As for Nokia, best of luck.

If the device works as it should, there is absolutely no need for updates. Unless you want new features, but that's like demanding a present.

I didn't buy the phone to constantly update it, I bought it to use it.

I don't trust Samsung because of their terrible support, they make excellent phones, but the lack of support is just a deal breaker for me, and that comes from a personal experience with a Samsung Jet for over a year now!

It is now very much clear that non popular brands on the smart phone industry will make their path so easy by standing on a popular Smart phone OS of the on going time, and after the brands make the popularity in a very short time, they will turn their road with there very own OS.huh

And why is this any kind of news exactly?

Pfff...Samsung is perhaps the biggest offender of providing ZERO after-purchase support for its mobiles. It's not like Samsung ever gave any kind of updates for its Symbian supported devices anyway.

I love how every mobile manufacturer acts like Symbian is the "plague"....use it on a device, & your doomed forever. I would really like to see where Samsung, HTC, SE, & Motorola would be without Android.

If Samsung thinks that BADA is their future, they are smokin' some good weed.

good move cause Symbian has no charm nor any aces up its sleeves left. Symbian Should drown with Nokia onboard.

Well, I had a Samsung Omnia (the first one) and I didn´t see a lot of Windows Mobile support... (there was NO firmware update here in Brazil).

and what i'm trying to say SE isn't too much keen on leaving platform unless they've spent some time with it

Nokia is just silly to still be hugging an outdated OS. And still trying to run their own show...

Why would companies take risks like that, when the new game in mobile is all about the OS.

With Android in the game, any company can put out low-end devices, and still have full Android apps/feature support.

Well well well I used to say this ages ago, even before such aggressiveness from samsung, but many people didn't believe me. So, it's good now to see that people finally understood what I was speaking about :)

I always said that when it comes to new technology samsung are great indeed, but when it comes to supporting their customers and caring about them, samsung are the worst and I mean it!

The number one concern for them is sucking your money, I mean can you imagine that they release more phones than nokia! How the heck do u think they will even support them?? All they care about is selling more and having a greater market share, but caring about the customers and supporting them after sales is non of their business.

And therefore, even with nokia, se flaws I respect them much more because of the support they provide their customers and the update service they provide for their cellphones.

                                    Cheers!

To think of it that we bought their smartphone in the hope that us the users will have enought software support after having bought these devices, but did not have in the end.what samsung is telling us the costumers that we really don't need to buy any of their products in the future because we might be facing the same scenario again. this will be a lesson for me and all of the people who bought their symbian phones.
