ppp, 01 Oct 2010I'm not surprised they'll no longer support symbian. Let's ... moreDude, unlike android where certain capabilities can be disabled by reducing clock speed and stuff like that, in symbian, its not so. All symbian devices running the same version have equal capabilities. The 5800 can do anything the omnia can.
No symbian^1 device supports hd gaming.
Samsung dropped symbian for the obvious reasons. Its not currently profitable and they have no real commitment to it. It would have been wiser though in my opinion, to release one or two mid range s^3 devices. There are markets in this world where the name symbian is synonymous with the word smartphone. I know. I'm from nigeria. If it ain't symbian, the people don't wanna hear.

Symbian in my opinion is not a good OP system these phones would have been better off with android or Windows with (sense).
Symbian isn't a OS I see most people in the US using on phones
these days. Android is a cash cow it won't be dropped by anyone who is smart.

Anonymous, 01 Oct 2010ovi market is only for nokia..it designed only for nokia de... moreAgree, Samsung Kies is a nightmare to use at least for me. The problem I have is I put the Galaxy S on sale for almost a week now, and nobody wants to buy it off of me yet. :(
Not like when I listed the 5800 for sale, and I got contacted in less than 24 hrs and it was sold the next day.
I do like the S screen though, but I hate Samsung support. If Kies is so buggy, then they shouldn't have released it for the Galaxy S, at least not until it's ready. They should have waited until the program actually works.

Nokia is not providing full access to symbian OS, that could be one of the reason SE n Samsung planing to flop symbian in coming days
e.g: there r no special updates for SE's symbian devices like p1i and Satio till now, only minor bug fixes

Development & Advertising for Symbian was not aggressive enough to compete with Android. While most of the other handset manufacturers were developing for the 1GHz chip, Symbian chose not to. In the age of Android, Blackberry & Apple OSs, The N8 packs only a 668 MHz chip. Good luck Symbian.

I'm not surprised they'll no longer support symbian. Let's face it: Samsung have made the best S60v5 smartphone - Omnia HD with huge capabilities and very strong hardware ... but there are like 3 or 4 HD games available on s60v5 because the vast majority of developers preferes to stick to Nokia cell phones (mainly 5800) which do not support HD apps. In conlusion: people chose to buy Nokias as they were cheaper, and not Omnia HD as it was more expensive and had not deserved support. Therefore they decided to abandon Symbian as it started to decline ...
Well ... That is my opinion, of course it is highly probable that I'm wrong ... xD

Anonymous, 01 Oct 2010and why they don't make a 'unified' OS for all smart phones... morethe reason why they wont unify the OS on phone its because then it would not give customers a choice, forcing them to a single OS on any brand of phone isnt good for business.
Giving the customers different os give a sense of not only competition, but the sense of choice. They choose whichever os suits their everyday life and will support that os accordingly. If they feel that another os is better for their needs they will move to that one. If your stuck with only 1 os, it better do everything that all the os' can do now and more. or else everyone, including myself, will buy a house phone and use it.

"You can' t just turn your back on a smartphone platform you've used on your high-end devices . Should we start worrying they might as well ditch Android or even WP7 in a year or two?"
Samsung doesn't really care about staying loyal to the other platforms except it's own. They are putting all their resources into the Bada platform, and using these other platforms as placeholders to make sure they get paid for the devices they continue to churn out. So they don't really treat Android or WP7 as the key to their success.
Don't believe it? Wait until 2011, Samsung will be making a killing off of Bada, and as un-concerned with those platforms as they were with Symbian.
