Nokia did it again.
Nor a single review include detailed instructions how to hold the N8 not to lose signal strength or connection!!!
In all the unboxing videos and photos, I could not find a pouch or ribbon to prevent signal lose either!!!
I definitely won’t buy the N8!!!

[deleted post]You really sound like the kind of person who really wanted the iPhone, couldnt get it for a reason only known to you, and then you resort to bashing it to justify to yourself for not having the iPhone.
Let it go son, its only a mobile phone. Brilliant one, but only a phone :)

Andy, 04 Oct 2010I absolutely agree with reviewers. If I don't like Apple's ... moreTotally agree with u. If u dislike steve jobs, that does not make iphone a bad device. If i am satisfied with n95, that does not make n8 a great phone. And if any site bashes n8, that does not mean he is swearing against me. Most comments here r ego-dystonic, n everyone trying to outwit others just to defend the brand they r using. Be more fair n square, than just looking at the plus points of ur preferred os n the negatives of other os.

LOL Hang on a minute! Is GSMArena unhappy that other reviewers have given some negatives about the "precious" N8? GSMArena, have you you been paid by Nokia or do you a Nokia employee working for you?
Is this the same GSMArena that bashed Apple so mercilessly over the signal issues on the iPhone 4, without allowing and waiting for Apple to deal with the situation? There is no major signal issues on the iPhone 4 now - I personally know a number of iPhone 4 owners who have found the signal to be great. So why is it ok to bash Apple and stir up anger amongst iPhone owners, but its not ok for other site reviewers to state the negatives they found about the N8????
Ok, lets look at this way. Nokia have made people wait so many months for the N8 to be released, acting out like it was the perfect phone. In that time HTC have released a couple of great phones, Apple have announced and released the iPhone 4, Samsung have released the great Galaxy S. So too right that the reviewers of the other sites can pinpoint negatives about the N8! Making people wait for a phone that is potentially not as good as its competition! If Nokia cannot make a phone good enough to be called great then thats Nokia's problem, not GSMArena's.
GSMArena, dont get me wrong I love your site. Its my main mobile phone site. I always look forward to reviews and news. But the way you have gone about this N8 issue is laughable!!!!! Nokia have the tendancy to let down their users with potentially big handsets which turn out to be bug filled and problematic, causing user frustration...N85, N86, N97, etc.....
Id love to see a REAL UNBIASED review of this phone by GSMArena, not sticking up for Nokia when other sites have given their opinions.

its only the UI, some laggy interface and some bugs but in terms of productivity, they provide it right. applications are carefully done to meet consumer needs, although not all applications are pleasing to the consumers. If the UI will be changed and interface will be faster, I think Nokia will redeem its customers. Symbian is a matured operating system, its just that people look at eye-candy UI's .. its like iOS and android hypnotized their minds with their UI's

Anonymous, 04 Oct 2010how long did it take to get kinetic scrolling which is ipho... moreYour point is very valid. But let's at the same time consider the other things... How long did it take iPhone to make video calls? I thought it is finally there with the iPhone4 then got the strange condition that it has to be to another iPhone only, and only through wifi (!!!) what's the use of it in this case? In my opinion, iPhone still doesn't have video call feature. Another thing I'm facing with my iPhone4, the battery life. For sure the screen is THE BEST ever made, but this is 100% eating the juice out of the device so quickly. I am heavily using my phone (+3 hrs talk, God knows how many messages, all day Gmail and company mail on with check on the Gmail every 15 minutes and continuos push on the company mail, about 20-30 minutes video calls with my family since they live in another city, in addition to web browsing every now and then, we'll call it 45 minutes on 3G network to be on the safe side). with this use, my iPhone does not make it till the end of the day, I'm always carrying 3 devices with me, my iPhone, Nokia E90 and Samsung Omnia II. They are all working almost the same load since each one of them is having a different sim card, from what I have experienced, the best so far is the E90 as it lasts more than 2 days straight (and it's the oldest one I have as well, since I got it sometime back in mid 2007 and have been using it since that time).
The only reason I tried the Samsung Omnia II and the iPhone (both 3GS and now 4) is because I was always reading comments like "Symbian OS is way behind others, IOS or Android or Windows Mobile are way ahead in the game" unfortunately I thought I'd give it a try and check out these big WOW operating systems to get the thrill every one is giving them... I'm totally disappointed with what I did. Windows Mobile is for sure the worst one in the list, hangs like crazy, crashes several times a week, battery consumption is high. IOS is completely stable, I never had a single crash on my previous 3GS or the surrent 4 (well, the new one is only one month old now, but I'm sure I will not face any problems with it). So getting back to the main point, it's a mobile device in the first place, be it a symbian, windows mobile, android, ios or bada or whatever else is there, the core function is communications on the move. Added features are sure welcomed, but not on the account of reducing the mobile connectivity function. Market place or Software market or all these nice services are ok, but will never make it or break it when it comes to selecting a device. You pay money for whatever device you get, and when it comes to "out-of the box" things, I must say that Nokia has proven to be the best in terms of providing a balanced device. They don't have the great hype of iPhone market or the snappy processor, they don't have the fancy interface of Android, but these are secondary elements (at least to me). I need a device that will serve me when I need it and not let me down. Software market will not do that, nice user interface will not do that, but a Nokia (doesn't have to be a smartphone model) will do it.
On the other hand, I don't know if it's just me or others are suffering the same too, with the iPhone, I am a slave to the iTunes software and can not even send a picture to my wife over bluetooth (!!) Why would a leading industrial manufacturer who produced the amazing MAC devices make such a strange limitation? also, where is the smart dial option in iphone? it's not there (out of the box) but it is available on software market ! again, WHY? I have seen the jailbreaking of the iPhone and I went crazy about it, this amazing device can do A LOT, and I mean it A LOT of things that are blocked out of the box... I don't even thing about jailbreaking mine because it automatically voids the warrany.
One more thing for the people hitting hard of the user interface of the Symbian devices, I was reading a few time ago that the great developers at SPB are having a symbian-compatible version being releasd shortly (or is already released). I have tried SPB mobile shell and there is no way on earth any other mobile manufacturer would dream of a smooth and easy to use interface, even the great Sense UI from HTC, so if the attack on symbian is coming from the user interface point of view, that is history now as it has the great features of SPB mobile shell. this covers for both, the look and useability of the device, if you haven't tried it before, beleive me, it is very much highly recommended for any mobile device that supports it, and from the functionality side, it is fair on the drain of the battery (yes it does consume power more than regular interface, but not to the point of making it an annoying thing).
Now, back to the battle of the brands, I have to be honest here that out of my long use of mobile phones for more than 15 years now, Nokia are not even close of being a "number one" mobile phone producer in terms of technology, BUT, and again BUT, they managed over the years to produce and well balanced device that would serve well in terms of cost, usability and function.
The processor speed issue to me is somehow a very weak point of argument, I tend to completely agree that it is more how the device utilizes the processor and produces more use time than being snappy while playing a game or rendering hagh quality graphics. Again, this is a nice thing to have, if the device can manage to give you the standby / talk time that you need. from what I have experienced, none of the high speed processor devices managed to do that.
I know it has been a long (and mayby boring) comment, but I couldn't help but to write these words as I was reading the comments here and there abotu the N8 (I am expecting to receive my own N8 around mid-October) :-) I have always wasted a fortune on mobile phones, they are my third love after my wife and cars. I hope by these words I managed to give the readers a bit of what I have actually experienced (as I really get angry when reading comments from people who have not even tried a certain device for more than few minutes and managed to develop a judgement on it !!!).
Please keep up the good work gsmarena and thank you for giving us the chance to both learn and be heard through your interesting pages and services. All the best to everyone.
Regards.

TC, 04 Oct 2010Dream on! Symbian3 is an outdated os that can´t even ... moreGuess the old Nokia E90(from 2007) doesn't fit in your world since it's a Symbian S60 device with a resolution of 800 x 352.
What resolution did Android support in 2007. If your going to bash something at least get your facts straight. Have you ever actually used a Nokia phone?

Anonymous, 04 Oct 2010suicidal??? ur talking about android profits?? if u r.. u g... moreI don't see companies listed there with their profits, now do I?
The problem with everyone going Android would be that they'd have to compete on hardware differentiation, which would be good for the consumer but would lessen the profits companies are making right now. But hey, if you want to look at forecasts four years into the future, be my guest. I'd just like to note that nothing is set in stone.

I absolutely agree with reviewers. If I don't like Apple's politics it does not make iPhone a bad phone, it's just not for me. As for Nokia, they really have to make N8 a grate phone for the price, otherwise Android is the way to go for smartphones.

BrianAW, 04 Oct 2010Android does not have video call..
Listen..nothing is pe... moreAndroid do most certainly have Video-calling!
Nokia is getting a lot of bashing up because they continue to disappoint with their outdated phones. Nokkia are simply not making good enough phones today, that is the ONLY reason why so many criticize Nokia, and N8.
Some reviewers do not dare take on the biggest and mightiest of them all by saying their newest "flagship" is no good.
Nokia made many Nokia-fans very angry with their latest flagships N97 and N97 mini, and we see that Nokia have not listened at all when they seem to make the same misstakes again with N8 and the "new" Symbian.

Romi, 04 Oct 2010Well, that depends only about point of view, which fanboy y... moreIt is not about being a fanboy. It shows in the phones that they review. Look at the latest reviews. Nokia C1-00 dual sim phone. Some manufacturers had to wait a while before this site put out a review on their dual sims. When will we see a review on the much more exciting Motorola EX115? Or the LG GX300? The C1-00 is really a poor dual sim phone and in the conclusion of the review they do not even highlight the competitors which they usually do.
And reviews are important. It like one big editorial ad for a phone.
