MediaTek Helio X30 chipset announced: 10nm, two more A73 cores

09 August, 2016
The chipset will share many similarities with Apple's chipset for 2017 - same 10nm TSMC process, similar GPU.

Anonymous, 12 Aug 2016You think Mediatek doesn't optimise and Qualcomm does! S... moreIt is just a known fact that Mediatek is bad in optimization for the real world than benchmarks. In terms of performance or power efficiency, from the 1st Helio P or X series until now, we are still waiting for them to prove a point over their competitors......

Are you still talking about SD615? SD625 already buried MediaTek's mid-range chipset more than a year, even Helio P20 is not as cool and energy efficient as SD625, and just comparable in terms of performance.

About the JavaScript issue, do you aware it's about Android's problem and it has been improved in Andriod N? And how significant it influence your usage speed in the real world? If Snapdragon top-tier chipset wasn't on par with Mongoose, why Samsung would choose them to be the other variant on the flagships?

Either you are a MediaTek fanboy, or your brain is empty.

Of all the Mediatek X## were short of full LTE therefore non Mediatek based phones are true world's phone. I wonder if X30 ever change that?

See how with the same cortex A53 works on S615 and on mt6752...
It's funny how mt6752 is much faster...not only due to frequency!

It's funny to read that Kryo are as good as Moongoose or A72...
Ask Kryo to run JavaScript himself, it's funny too.

Skalapountaroi, 09 Aug 2016I have one question somewhat irrelevant to the topic! The ... moreThe nanometer is the size. Smaller the nanometer the less power the chip uses, the smaller the transistors are and the less heat it should produce. The cheap might be harder to cool depending on how dense the chip is. That's all.

Ignore the rest who post paragraphs of nonsense.

Anonymous, 10 Aug 2016Helio x30 should used A35 cores, instead older A53 cores :/Cortex A53 is more powerful than Cortex A35 in terms of performance as it is the successor of Cortex A9, while Cortex A35 is successor of Cortex A7, a CPU that excels in power saving but having mediocre performance.
Moreover, Cortex A35 supports only weak Mali T820/T830 GPU, while Cortex A53 supports powerful Mali T860/T880 GPU, the same GPU that Cortex A72 support. So, I think for a while Cortex A72 + Cortex A53 combi will remain for a little while, then changed to Cortex A73 + Cortex A53 while Cortex A35 ONLY be used for low-end SoC, as Cortex A35 specs are definitely for low-end which boast power-saving ability than balanced performance/power like A53 did

Skalapountaroi, 09 Aug 2016I have one question somewhat irrelevant to the topic! The ... moreThe nanometer rating refers to half the distance between two identical printed elements. Like half the distance between two transistors.
Why half? Because that half distance, along with the element itself, is the smallest thing the fabrication process can create. It's like a basic unit, where the gap to the next element and it's gap is a part of the the unot.

Chips consist of bilions transistors and 10nm technology means, that size of one single transistor is 10nm. i remember time 20 years ago when we had CPU's running at 130MHz based on 1 micrometer technology :-)

Hope the GPU is a powerful one this time at least..

10nm indicates the resolution of the die used to make the transistor. It can be considered as the distance between source and drain of a FET as this is the least count distance of a transistor.
