MediaTek Helio X30 chipset announced: 10nm, two more A73 cores

09 August, 2016
The chipset will share many similarities with Apple's chipset for 2017 - same 10nm TSMC process, similar GPU.

Skalapountaroi, 09 Aug 2016I have one question somewhat irrelevant to the topic! The ... moreHi, nm is length unit, just like cm and millimeter but it is way smaller,
meter>>millimeter>>micrometer>>nanometer (nm).
and it translates the accuracy of the manufacturing of the processor.
and as you may know; as the number of transistors in a given CPU increase, it becomes more powerful, because it is capable of handling more logic processes per second.
so manufacturers aim to fit as much transistors as possible, so they decrease their physical size.
this decrease in transistor size requires high accuracy machines that can differentiate and sense very small distances/lengths.
these lengths are the nm (nanometers) you read in the specs.
so as the nm number decrease the CPU is better :)

mixa, 10 Aug 2016It's the distance between the transistors.no, its not the distance. it's the width of the conductors used in the semiconductor fabrication.

        Seriously Guys....
Give it a rest. The thing that matters is Quality of Cores & not the Quantity. If Apple with it's 2 Twister cores is good, it's because of Integration of H/W & S/W. Mind you, It'll still be a good beast had it existed in Android Realm. Here in Android, As many would have noticed, Kyro Cores (SD820, quad) takes on Mangoose (Exonys 8890, Octa) quiet nicely. It's about optimizations. MTK is only about ARM architecture, they don't optimize it, hence the CPU's don't perform as well as they should with all those cores. Simple logic.

Skalapountaroi, 09 Aug 2016I have one question somewhat irrelevant to the topic! The ... moreThe semiconductor manufacturing node measured in nanometers (a billionth of a meter or a millionth of a millimeter) represents the size of the transistors that make up all the logic gates and circuits in an integrated circuit (aka "chip"). The smaller these elements the more you can fit an a set amount of space and the less power they use (in crude theory). Modern desktop CPUs are made up of somewhere around a billion 14nm transistors (which means more functions can be implemented in hardware with additional circuits, like onboard graphics and hardware media decoders which can significantly speed up certain tasks). So if MediaTek can produce chips with 10nm transistors (which I don't think has been done on a mass production product yet) you could hope for a high performing, low power processor (but right now they're probably looking mainly for hype).
Also it's hard to say in which way the transistors are actually measured as there are different kinds of transistors used and I think it happened before that instead of length the width was advertised or something weird like that, so maybe don't get too excited...

And then Qualcomm and Samsung will unveil their new flasghips, and they will be better. MediaTek will launch a better chispet, and Qualcomm and Samsung will do it too, and so on. This cycle will never end.

The nano miters that the CPUs are based on,what they actually measure??
I first thought that it is the size of the core but when I asked my physics teacher, not my IT teacher,he said that is the distance between the cores, transistors etc.
What is the correct answer? :/

I don't know what to do with this number of cores.
Even on a desktop PC, it is rare to use more than four cores.
I mean, it is quite overkill or cost inefficient to have multiple CPUs to serve various/three types of loads.
I feel that a high speed dual core plus a low speed dual core is best right now.
