Nokia N8 gets better stills, 30 fps video with continuous autofocus

13 October, 2010
If you already checked the review, you would know that the Nokia N8 is the best cameraphone available by a wide margin. But it turns out that there's even more potential locked inside that smartphone...

So what if you get all the specification like that, you are nothing more than a pawn in the consumerism chessboard. Nokia, on the other hand has an aim to build robust phones that can satisfy common day users and will withstand the test of time though I don't expect you to fathom what I am saying anyway.

Awesome post but you should update it. I installed the modification on my N8 and it does not slow down browsing through the gallery. Perhaps it is because the gallery uses thumbnails? I feel like it may take longer for the image to come into focus when zooming but this is a small price to pay for the clearer, more detailed images. This is so cool. : )

People are asking why not to buy proper digicam ? I ask why to carry separate digicam when you can have great cam in your phone and always with you !?

                Information wants to be free.

Apple hype is dying as we speak and won't be long until people realize that they don't want to be told what files to play with their phones or what software to use with them.

Iphone multitasking ? Come on.. In N8 you can have bunch of real multitasks same time.

Hah, Apple guys just don't get it. If you want play games - buy apple but if you want to have versatile mobile with tons of connectivity you need to get N8.

Do you want to play MKV's out of any USB stick and push 5.1 HD video to any HDMI TV - buy Nokia. Can i4 do that - guess not and will not. Overall you can't even sync i4 with basic non-apple sofware.

For the latest smartphone from a bigwig like Nokia , the hardware specs stand nowhere in front of smartphone newcomers in the market like Samsung.

Chk out Samsung Wave S8500 hardware specs :

                      - ARM Cortex A8 1Ghz processor couped with 512MB RAM

                      - WOLFSON Dedicated Music Chip WM8994 coupled with DNSe (Digital Natural Sound Engine)

                      - POWERVR SGX540 Graphics Core engine - 89 million triangles per second

                      - Super AMOLED

And regarding Symbian , the less said , the better ...

Have you even tried N8? Idiots. God I hate fanboys who haven't even tried the phone. Menus are running at 60 fps, how much smoother do you want it to get?? And yes, it is fast in other places too.

Jasiah, 14 Oct 2010Nokia need to fix up. They keep using the slowest cpu which... moreI'm no Nokia fanboy, but I think it's not only about the CPU frequency, the performance of the CPU is about the same as others. What sucks though it that this is going to run on Symbian, I use Symbian and my father has Android. Symbian is slow and sluggish and I can see a tremendous difference. Symbian is beaten hands down.

qoute"The huge (and I mean huge) vagaries of digital video, wherein the 'container' file format often has no bearing on the actual content encoded inside and where every encoding method has half a dozen variants and bitrates and resolutions vary wildly, are a subject for another day, but suffice it to say that of the dozen movie trailers I grabbed in AVI, MKV and DivX 'form', ten played perfectly, while one of the ones that didn't turned out to be in full HD format and even my Mac wouldn't play it properly. Plus my existing collection of thirty or so MP4 and WMV films and music videos all played perfectly."

The best Camera phone on the market indeed. It's such a shame that every other feature is so ordinary.

The world is still waiting for the next N95.

Why do people talk down on Nokia or other phones? Every phone has an advantage and a disadvantage. It is solely based on user preference. I gave my Iphone 4 to my daughter because she likes to play games on it. The N8 intrigues me because of camera quality and that Im also a photographer. I use the phone more on photography than installing apps and playing on apps. It is a great back up camera for me. Again, it is based on user preference.

It's got a GPU as well...So it might actually be faster than a Snapdragon in some applications.
