Looking at the posts at other forums, it looks like the GPS is still all over the place when driving.

Broken hardware?

Braindead Broadcom GPS chip?

Alot of people are facing difficulties when trying to connect theire galaxy S with Kies. I, myself, find it simply impossible to connect my i9000 with Kies and wonder if there's anyone who know how to fix this?

Samsung, congratulations...finally you release the FROYO update...

BUT seriously...that Kies software is a pile of horse...ya, you know! Seriously, that software needs to be burried....its useless, it's full of errors, slow and just so a pile of horse...exactly.

Okay...seriously, I love your phones man! Even if the GPS is sketchy haha, but that's a true artist, just keep sketching!

musicmaker, 15 Oct 2010I had just about decided to buy an HTC Desire, but this def... moreHere's a real reply and I hope you'll figure out it has more value than what i've seen so far:p

            - A you're a geek, you're going to put a custom rom and wish for the excellent screen, battery life, etc aka hardware capabilities of the SGS. Get a SGS. Apply a rom with voodoo lagfix. No lag. Much faster than the Desire (HD, or not).

            - B you're a regular, but power user (you're on GSM Arena), you don't wanna mess with roms, just have a good phone that works well without fiddling with stuff etc. Get a Desire HD. No brainer.

Both being pretty good phones anyway.

Personally I'm a A so I've a SGS and I'm happy with it, better than I was with a Desire. Without all the fixes I had to do however, the SGS is simply bad despite great hardware. Fixes made a HUGE difference.

The Best in The Business Android Phone . Been using it along with iPhone 4 ( Cuz iPhone 4 amazingly insane resolution that help me read my medical books and websites the best way , camera and apps ). Love the form factor . The only downfall is that Plastic body look so Cheap when u compare it to the premium bulid of iPhone 4 . But the user experience with Froyo 2.2 is amazing , customization is top notch . loving the update .

Internet browser- HTC desire has a much better browser simply because can play flash videos of most format.I think Galaxy S should get flash 10.1 in froyo update but for now DESIRE is best for browsing the net.

                                    Galaxy S VS HTC Desire

This is my own opinion having owned bot handsets.

Calls- I find the Galaxy S to have much better call signal and reception overall. On my Desire I found a constantly crackling noise in the background and poor signal most of the time.( Vodafone is my provider and normally good)

Loudspeaker- Again Galaxy wins this by miles as Desire has probably worst mic/speaker I have came accross on a phone.

Interface-Desire wins hands down with HTC Sense and overall much more user friendly.

Speed-Desire again wins on this sections being much quicker navigating around the phone and has no lag what so ever whereas Galaxy does lag from time to time.

Battery life- Galaxy wins this sections by a long way. I really struggled to get 1 day from Desire but Galaxy can go for 2 days with all extras open and ful brightness.

Video player-Both screens looks amazing but Galaxy wins this section and still to come accross a file that Galaxy S will not play.

Camera- This is a tough call, Galaxy wins for photo performance but without flash can cause problems sometime.

WIFI- Excellent on both phones and probably same performance.

Video recording. GALAXY BY MILES-quality is stunning on recording video in good light but because quite poor in low light but that can be expected.
Desire has terrible video quality even when upgraded to Froyo and sound when recording was WORST I HAVE EXPERIENCED ON ANY HANDSET.

Sound on Galaxy S when video recording is just acceptable but nothing as good as Nokia N95 or most nokia phones whcih is a shame, Why develope such amazing HD video with average sound.

I hope this will help some decide which phone is best for there needs.

The desire has better overall stability in daily tasks compared to the 2.1 on the SGS. It boasts of better widgets, more customizable homescreen, more intuitive social phonebook & gallery. It "integrates" & just works. I almost forgot it looks much better with the metal & soft touch plastics. I couldn't care less about bluetooth 3.0 or wi-fi N connectivity as neither are going to become standards soon. Additionally, HTC are light years quicker in bringing out updates

Points in favor of SGS: Brilliant S-Amoled screen, 16gb onboard memory, Hummingbird processor, slightly larger screen.

Point to note is that here in India, supplies of the Wave & SGS are drying up fast with rumors that the company may end their productions soon due to a number of reasons, one of which is the shortage of displays. Now, i remember another great phone, Samsung Jet which was prematurely discontinued & now those owners are having trouble when their phones need spares as the service centers state they've stopped producing them. This is definitely playing at the back of my mind when i intend on investing a hefty sum in a top of the line Samsung. Although samsung is being courteous in offering these customers a "samsung" credit of the value of the phone when these customers bought it, it still doesn't solve the core problem
