so it's not much faster than leaked froyo firmwares, but what about someone who's upgrading from 2.1? will I see a good performance boost?

I notice that no one has touched upon this point but does the 2.2 update fix the FM radio problem of not receiving stereo?

Arfin, 15 Oct 2010Gsmarena comenting coolest smartphone.and others are bad.th... moreYep, nothing special about SGS...it doesn't brew you any coffee, nor it does find you a girlfriend...WAKE UP PEOPLE!!! It's a phone after all!!! And a damn good one i might add. Just like every other high-end mobile device currently on the market chances are most of you (including me) will not use it to its full potential EVER! We are becoming more and more spec whores by the minute if we are not satisfied from what current top phones have to offer us right now. So prioritize YOUR needs and buy accordingly. After all, today's best mobiles offer so much more at even lower prices than what was available only a year ago.

I need your help please
I got my galaxy s from vodafone store as usual they put all there own junk onto it like vodafone 360 and slightly customise it.
My question is, can I still upgrade to Froyo or do I have to wait on Vodafone to approve it

Here is my opinion between Desire and Galaxy which I added a few days ago .
Internet browser- HTC desire has a much better browser simply because can play flash videos of most format.I think Galaxy S should get flash 10.1 in froyo update but for now DESIRE is best for browsing the net.
Galaxy S VS HTC Desire
This is my own opinion having owned bot handsets.
Calls- I find the Galaxy S to have much better call signal and reception overall. On my Desire I found a constantly crackling noise in the background and poor signal most of the time.( Vodafone is my provider and normally good)
Loudspeaker- Again Galaxy wins this by miles as Desire has probably worst mic/speaker I have came accross on a phone.
Interface-Desire wins hands down with HTC Sense and overall much more user friendly.
Speed-Desire again wins on this sections being much quicker navigating around the phone and has no lag what so ever whereas Galaxy does lag from time to time.
Battery life- Galaxy wins this sections by a long way. I really struggled to get 1 day from Desire but Galaxy can go for 2 days with all extras open and ful brightness.
Video player-Both screens looks amazing but Galaxy wins this section and still to come accross a file that Galaxy S will not play.
Camera- This is a tough call, Galaxy wins for photo performance but without flash can cause problems sometime.
WIFI- Excellent on both phones and probably same performance.
Video recording. GALAXY BY MILES-quality is stunning on recording video in good light but because quite poor in low light but that can be expected.
Desire has terrible video quality even when upgraded to Froyo and sound when recording was WORST I HAVE EXPERIENCED ON ANY HANDSET.
Sound on Galaxy S when video recording is just acceptable but nothing as good as Nokia N95 or most nokia phones whcih is a shame, Why develope such amazing HD video with average sound.
I hope this will help some decide which phone is best for there needs.

Finally after uncountable tries I was able to connect my Samsung I9000 (Galaxy S, Vibrant, etc) with Windows XP Professional (32bit). All the tips and tricks (trying USB debugging, different modes, etc) mentioned in the forums did not lead to any solution and Kies (version: 1.5.1.10074_45) was not able to detect the phone at all. At maximum something like “Kies cannot connect to the phone in mass storage mode, connection terminated.” came up. In my case it was Launcher Pro and after killing it, it worked.
Here is what I did:
Do not connect the phone and exit/kill all Kies applications (especially Kies.exe) you find on your Windows box.
In the phone go to Settings, About phone, USB settings and select Samsung Kies. Any other setting (e.g. Ask on connection) did not work.
Go back to the main settings screen, choose Applications, Manage applications.
Choose LauncherPro and select Clear defaults
Go to home screen (press home key) and select TwLauncher instead of LauncherPro
Connect the phone via the USB cable
The home screen will vanish and an application called MTP Application is started.
Wait till your Windows box is done with driver installation.
Launch Kies.
