28 August, 2016
The Xperia X Compact rejuvenated hope that you could still get flagship specs at a sub-5" form factor.

My dad will not use any phone above 4.5 inches neither he is fond of apple OS. So I would like to buy him a good compact Android flagship phone.

Of course, but only if they're cheaper than flagship phones with bigger screen.

I'm using S7 regular, it is considered mini nowadays.

I am completely fine with any flagship phone with 4.6-5 inch. But unfortunately, except iPhone and Sony no one makes it. Sony's camera and certain things I do not like much but I would love to see more compact powerful devices.

The Screen is pixelate and color temperature is bad (normal mode too warm , adaptive mode too cold ) , the speaker lack of base . The heating is serious and the storage is not fast enough . 5430 saids to be on par with s801 but when i use it , it totally feel like snapdragon 400 . It promise update 5.1 at october but until now it haven receive anything . Worst part is it price at flagship price .

GsmArena seems to forget that the most sold iphone now is the 4.7', not the 5.5'. Why do you compare the Sony 4.6' to the 4' iphone SE instead of the regular iphone 6/6s (non plus)?

The reason why the One mini and it siblings did not have success is quite easy: 1) they are in asia where the bigger 5.5' are most popular; 2) that phone is for 'geeks', it is only sold online and often only with invitation, definitely not for the masses, such informed people are mostly 'power users' who really need big screens.

The success of the SE, previously the 5s, and the regular 6/6s over the Plus, at least in western countries, demonstrates that there is space for pocket-friendly devices. But it is a niche.
If you (wrongly) call mini the regular iphone, that's no more a niche, but the most sold phone in the world!

Back then their Xperia Neo (and the Neo Pro) was considered normal with its 57mm, and they even made a compact variant Xperia Ray with 53mm. (All practically identical in specs including resolution, only real difference being the size of each of the WVGA pixels)

It isn't just about your pocket, it's also about handling. I think these compacts between 4,5" and 4,8" are perfect to handle while bigger and smaller ones don't fit that good in your hand.

The option reminds me of the old joke on aPple:

                                * Android users got BIG pockets
                                * Ios users got DEEP pockets

...Though this was more true before Ip6+

The reason Sony axed the sub 5" midrangers is they wanted the compacts to be the only choice there. 4.6" is plenty for everything even for qwerty (and my main language has more letters). Only thing that makes you want a bigger screen is when you watch movies or series. It's enough for YT, insta and browsing.

Sidd847, 28 Aug 2016Ok.. OnePlus X has smaller battery and only 16gb internal s... moreHeh, "compact", still much bigger than Nokia 3210 in profile which used to be thought as gargantuan as compared to a decade of subsequent phones.

Unless Apple decides to create a compact phone that is useful (~5 inches yet of smaller height than 3210) and everybody else copying her, we won't see a true compact phone (one handed use + screen big enough for all apps).

Good thing there are rumours that Apple may eliminate the front button, start using amoled, replace the home button's uses with 3d touch and ubiquitous fingertip sensor... If Apple does not (once again ) muck it up we're going to see a phone at 120x60mm and 4.9 inches. A truE compact smartphone.

Until then either the phones would be too big for one handed use, or too small to be useful...

Ok.. OnePlus X has smaller battery and only 16gb internal storage(not a fan of external)! Turn offs for me. Would love a 64/128/256gb internal with bigger battery. Dont care abt QHD as FHD is sufficient for me. Something the size of my old Moto X 2013. God, I still love that phone!
Also Google+Moto dream combo.. likely wont see it anymore :(

I've always put my phone in my chest pocket. Can fit a phablet in there and its easy to access.
