Both screens are very similar and can be ignored. Other features makes more sense to compare to.

the first phone with curved back was made by Xiaomi and its the Xiaomi Mi Note, and i guess that was the inspiration of samsung on their edge phones with curved front display..

Samsung is in a different level compared to Apple (plus has foundries and hardware genius to make hardware rather than outsource it). Apple have not advanced upon technology developments in terms of displays & hardware and are trailing in the wake of Samsung, Xiaomi, Nexus, Hauwei...etc. Apple are stuck at building simple hardware for a simple iOS. People now want an all empowering device than can do much more and are not restrictive or basic, which is what an Iphone is.

Not only chinese manufactures make copy from big brand. But Big brand like Samsung also does copy from Apple IPhone.

But Note 7 display implementation nail it. The edges there are curved very little. Great for holding. Perfect grip. And easier one-hand use.
