OptionalName, 21 Oct 2010As I understood, S^3 and S^4 and other numbers are no more,... morethe funny thing is i knew they were gonna kill sym4
and so what is on n8 is just souly SYMBIAN OS nothing else
I`M GLADE ans Qt is gonna be so dangerous in a few months time
all the things that they are able to do with it like PUSH project
it`s nuts and mind boggling
but i`m happy and i`m really glad i`m making the transition from sym1 to symOS next week when i get my N8 :3

Forgot to add,
I really like Nokia's component update strategy, when something becomes available they release it, instead of waiting and releasing it in a firmware update.... Browser ready? let it out, new UI ready? let it out! Ovi Maps ready? release it!
Very effective.
And all(I hope) current Symbian^3 phones and future ones are going to receive the same updates and the same Symbian, nothing held back for the future product... I hope.

deep space bar, 21 Oct 2010nope it means all the sym3 phones will get firmware updates... moreAs I understood, S^3 and S^4 and other numbers are no more, it's only Symbian, based on Qt, built fully from scratch on Qt dev platform. N8 will get what was known as "Symbian^4" but it won't be called "Symbian^4" it'll be called an "update", that includes UI. The old Symbian^3 AVKON core will be replaced by the Qt based ORBIT core, Nokia is all Qt now.
Orbit core will allow for a much smoother UI, with better effects, animations and freeform widgets.
And since Nokia moved to solely Qt development platform, that means S60v5(S^1) is dead, S60v3 is dead. There will be no applications, updates and backwards compatibility. Forget about the old systems, they are dead.
Qt development(program) will be used to develop applications for both Symbian(no more numbers ^3, ^4, just simply SYMBIAN) and MeeGo. Both will have cross compatibility, that means write the code once and deploy on both Symbian and MeeGo platforms.
Very nice move by Nokia IMO, cleans up a lot of things. They will still sell hardware cause, there is better and better hardware coming out each year anyway that people want to buy.

oh come on dont fight for phones OSes again...
and dont use the word "see" plis if u want to comment bout something u better try it first.
u can't judge it fail just for some utube videos. held it in ur hand, try it for a day or two then u will find there are no king perfect phone or os but every phone always have some place in a heart as a piece of art.
i've tried many phones in my hand and played with their os, from feature phone to smartphone, from symbian to ios, android,bb and winmo and i love them all, hope they will grow to more capable and more support to our jobs and colours our days, not to make us fighting and argue without ending.

[deleted post]No, WinMo 6.5 does not kick ass, HTC HD2 kicks ass. The hardware of HD2 and brilliant engeneering of HTC when the integrated Winmo into HD2 is what kicks ass. HTC is virtuallt the only company that knows how to engineer WinMo into the hardware in a proper way. I first got the Sony Ericsson Xperia X2 with WinMo 6.5 and i was very close to literally throwing the laggy piece of garbage out from the balcony on the 18th floor. I went back to the store and had a go at WinMo with the sales person. He told me to try HTC HD2. I changed the SE for the HD2 and went home to try it. Seriously, it's like night and day between HD2 and Xperia X2 with the same OS. Xperia X2 with Winmo 6.5 is probably by far the worst piece of garbage i have ever used and HTC HT2 with WinMo 6.5 is by far the best peice of handheld technology i have ever used. So i learned not to judge the OS so quickly as that are companies that don't know how to engineer OS into hardware properly, HTC are probaly the best in the world at this, doesnät matter if it's Android, WinMo or sometning else, HTC are brilliant at engineering. And i have no doubt that WinPH 7 can only be engineered by HTC if it's to reach glory.

[deleted post]Exactly what can iOS do that Symbian can't? Answer that. Then i will give you a very long list of what Symbian can do and iOS can't. Stuff like HDMI support, multitasking, 3G based Turbo Video-call, USB-on-the-go etc etc are just a little part of the list. I use WInMo 6.5 with my brilliant HTC HD2, but i still believe Symbian is by far the most power mobile OS evre created and still is, the posibillities of Symbian are endless, in contrast to iOS which is very restricted and limited. You call people using Symbian low IQ? Do you why iOS was made? IS it made to be easiest OS to operate, specially for the mass bauyers that donät have a technical bone in their body. Nothing is easier and more limited fpr someone smart than Apples "iTap" toy. Maybe you are just to d*um to use Symbian, have you ever thought about that?

[deleted post]May I give you an answer? Look on the GSMArena review. Even they (Nokia friends it seems) admit S^3 is not at par with iOS and Android.
What's better on Android? Web browsing for starters. Look on yotube and let me know if you find someone saying S^3 browser is better.
Then look at the user interface (animated backround). It might be eye candy but Android phones have the hardware to meet the requirements for it, while Nokia can't do that. How about the 3 homescreen panes? Are they enough for you? Really? On my X6 with spb shell, and no apps downloaded I need 4 panes at least. On SGS I have 7. How about the anoyng pop-ups from Symbian. Who can get rid of the "Active Diverts"? I ask about this for ages on the internet and nobody can answer me.
I think most of the Nokia fans are from arab countries. No surprise, since there are not many open minded pople there anyway.

This comparison is not fair to OVI store as Nokia phones always come free preloaded and integrated with all of the apps, social hubs and smartphone functions that iPhone user have to pay for and download from Appstore.
If Apple iPhone wasn't such poorly loaded phone than people will not have to pay for and download basic apps that other phones have in the OS from the beginning.
But then again, if Apple did that, how would Steve Jobs be able to assf*ck customer and rip a new hole in their fans wallets and drusuck them for their hard earned money.
Iphone are for futicakes, social wannabes, 14 year old girlsm posers and housewives with chihuahuas. Basically everyone that are d*mb enough to think it's ok to pay for stuff in Appstore that other phones have for free and have no idea what a smartphone should offer from day 1.

Anonymous, 21 Oct 2010Don't ever attempt a joke again. what is wrong with 3 home ... moreLoL, I have a Nokia X6 and an SGS. Luckily spb shell exists. I don't know about you, but on my X6 I have up 10 screens (5 in lifestyle layout and 5 in professional layout). On one screen I have only two big and wide widgets: SPB weather(weather forecast for 4 days) and Agenda (two weeks from my calendar). No other widget will fit there. So far I use 4 screens, and I do not download any games or apps on my X6, because I get better and cheaper ones on my SGS.
On my SGS I have 7 screens and they are almost full. On N8 all widgets are the same size, so you cannot have a decent weather, agenda widget.
