Smartphones have been eating into the portable game consoles market for a while now, but this should speed up the process quite a lot. Apparently the rumored Sony Ericsson PlayStation phone is real and we've...

I have been waiting for a sony device for sometime now, I had made up my mind to either get 1 of new win7 htc or n8 or E7.

But this changes my mind again!!!!!!

I can wait, I can wait, I can wait, but sony please dont take forever.

I might actually also get win7 htc as well, because I don't think this is coming anytime soon. It will be a long waiting.

    PLEASE HURRY SONY...

There should be a model which could record full HD videos! but I'm sure that it will happen only in the future and not now - and that's a pitty!

It seems logical to think that within a few more months there would be a new psp-phone model with a better processor - because all such devices (smartphones) are constantly evolving!

So how would this effect the PSP market? there would be many variations of the hardware - so how could there be one PSP standard for game developers?

another suggestion would be to put dual slide. 1 for gamepad another for qwerty. both has to be slimmed down though to make it fit

Too bad the games on this phone won't work on other android phones because it will have a own section in android market. I'm selling my boring Galaxy s and buy this as soon as possible.

No analog stick is downer since this may not work for platformers and FPS. I think the touchpad might help for aim and such. Android + PlayStation marriage at last. Let's see if SE can finally deliver this on time. When they state 2010-2011, they really mean 2012. Gamers don't give a damn what the phone looks like. Is the Nintendo 3DS really good-looking too? Who cares? Gamers just want to play games and not deal with only touchscreen controls all the time! Give me Final Fantasy VII, Tekken 3, and some Street Fighter II where I can battle via online and WiFi, and I could care less about the lack of an analog stick. I am good to go with those old games! This phone is going to kickass! Nomore censorship from Apple. Give me the blood and nudity now, baby! Whoo-hoo!

They should release this as a mobile phone add-on, it would be much more successful and user friendly.

The problem with this is that it has been done before with the Nokia N-Gage which was way too big for it to be used as a phone.

If it was an add-on that could be clipped onto any smartphone, then it wouldn't make the phone less user friendly and it could be used only when required, rather than have it as a permanent accessory.

I wonder whether the sliding pad could be replaced by a qwerty keboard - it could be very usefull! A dual-use sliding pad that has two modes, so that you can switch between the two modes according to your need at each time.

This could have been done if the pad was detachable so that you could put a qwerty one instead, or if the sliding pad could flip around so one side has the gaming pad keys and the other side has the qwerty keyboard...

Or a more elegant solution would be if the sliding pad was some kind of a simple touchscreen - which could function as a qwerty keyboard or as a gaming pad. no need for a full featured touch screen but only a simple "active" touch pad. I think LG (for example) has such a thing - a transparent sliding pad which could function as a dynamic input pad... (and change the virtual input touch-keys according to each use).

In that way, one wouldn't need to choose between a gaming device and a productivity device - and it would be used for both purposes, without needing to compromise and choose only one of the two...

great news! i know it'll be easier to hack than the current psp devices, and u can play other android games and use the slip-gamepad as well!

Holy shit! Finally! Console-style, "big boy" games on my God damn phone! God of War, please? Time to save up my money now and I'll pass on the 3DS and their overpriced/underpowered hardware for this PSP phone. Nintendo is getting arrogant with their recent success like Sony did and I think 3D is too gimmicky. Our vision needs to constantly adjust to it and we can not move when looking at 3D or we can lose the effect. This recent SE announcement is going to be a gamechanger!

Will other companies be able to make PSP-compatible smartphones?

The hardware and the operating system (android) of this device are pretty standard - only the control pad is unique... and other companies could add something like that quite easily!

And because it runs android and not a proprietary operating system - wouldn't any android phone (with a similar processor) be able to run the same games as this PSP-phone (even without the control pad)?

So what's the big deal with this device?! would someone please explain this for me?
