Samsung wants to use AMD or Nvidia GPUs in its Exynos chipsets, plans to ditch Qualcomm for good in 2018

09 September 2016

Zenodroid, 10 Sep 2016dx12 on what phone ? windows 10 phone? (or what it should be).
He was talking about dekstop probably, because AMD don't have mobile SoC GPU (aside what AMD sold to Qualcomn) so any comparison in mobile soc segment is currently not possible.

Do mind, In Doom Vulkan, AMD GPU became MUCH MORE powerful (30%-50% perfomance gain) than OpenGL mode.

AnonD-442781, 10 Sep 2016AMD didn't make it. They acquired it and sold it. Not s... moreYour comments are mildly annoying because you spread some of the most misinformation in this thread.
ATI/AMD were releasing at the time the most successful mobile GPUs, Google the 2380 and the 2388, among others. Heck, they were designed by AMD, launched to the market by AMD and even manufactured at AMDs own fabs so they're as AMD as it gets. They were released for actual PHONES, supported OpenGL ES 1.2 and at that time were the fastest mobile GPUs by a long shot. In 2006 when they first launched they sold one hundred million of those chips alone. That was back in 2006, and they sold more in that year than Nvidia ever did, even with the wake of the insane smartphone market growth.
So after the sale Qualcomm RENAMED them to Adreno and until pretty much early 2010 they were just launching/using products from AMDs pipeline, they just changed the marketing name, the whole first get chips were as AMD designed them.
Heck, the newest Adreno GPUs? They're based on the same AMD designs, beefed up, modernized and tweaked. Go check SemiAccurate. Nobody did as much for mobile GPU as ATI/AMD and comparing those achievements to puny Nvidia tablet chipset sales is way uncool. Especially since...

Nvidia has nothing that could compete on a phone and it is far from it, they'd need to put at least as much work into it as AMD. Check their latest products TDP - their chipsets have literally the same TDP as a Skylake i5 U, and the smallest device that can dissipate that is currently the Surface Pro 4. I think it conveys how insane is that, because Samsung could either put Nvidias chip with a fairly weak CPU and a competitive mobile GPU or a freaking Skylake i5 with Intel 520. That's how ridiculous the Nvidia chips thermals and power optimization are. Nvidia WOULD need a brand new architecture for mobile, and their previous attempts with Tegra 3 had higher TDP than an Exynos and weaker GPU performance than not only Adreno, but also corresponding Mali of that time (HTC One X vs Samsung Galaxy S3). In short, Nvidia never had a worthy mobile chip. That is all.

None of Nvidia gpus can do that. Only AMD. Dont be fooled by marketing. Nvidia is trying to fix via software. Not the same as async shaders/compute

Though I don't see AMD beating SnapDragon. Maybe NVidia has a chance. I'm not an expert in this, but on PCs I know that Intel beats AMD, also Nvidia graphics cards are some of the best.
