Nokia X2-01 surfaces, is another QWERTY-packing S40 phone

2 November, 2010
We just stumbled upon some photos and specs for a rumored Nokia X2-01. The device looks a lot like the Nokia C3, but it's obviously positioned even lower. Yes, we're as confused as the rest of you...

Nokia can no longer compete in the high-end smartphone category, that is why they are releasing more and more low-end phones for the mass market.

I foresee Symbian's downfall in the future, with Android eventually monopolizing the smartphone market.

This trend from Nokia is just a precaution of the inevitable.

Sails, 02 Nov 2010I think the new naming is better than the old one actually.... more"Giving each model names would be ridiculous...after that nobody would remember what that "Hero" or "Galaxy K" was actually like" Are you like stxpid or something? Marketing 101! It's way easier for the average human being to remember a name like Hero or Galaxy than numbers and letters... do some research! Tell you what! Ask your friends if they know the HTC Legend, the Galaxy S or the iphone, and I'll bet they'll know better than any C5-03 or X3-02 or 5132!!!

Sails, 02 Nov 2010We all know do we? That it is an excellent phone for its pr... more+1

I see LG and Samsung low-end handsets gathering dust in bargain bins, but the humble Nokia 1100 is nowhere to be seen - at least not on shelves! :--]

The low end isn't for developing countries only. What about parents who don't want to send their 7 or 9 year old to school with a $700 gadget, but still want them to be able to get in touch? Wouldn't it be nice if a $100 device gets rid of the iPod-pester?

Or the tradesman who wants a "business" (smart) phone that never leaves the ute, and a "work" phone taht he carries around on the job? Or just as a spare or temporary-replacement phone for us nerds?

I'd surely like GSMArena's opinion on the low-end as much as the high-end. Would be nice if somoene other than Nokia was releasing new, interesting low-mid range phones!

MMM, 02 Nov 2010HAVE to make a request to GSMArena: PLEASE dont review this... moreWe all know do we? That it is an excellent phone for its price and it is going to sell a lot?

I don't think many of us are actually planning to buy such a low end phone, but personally I find such reviews very interesting. Especially when the reviewer actually considers the price and purpose.

Even though many here don't even know phones like Nokia 1100, it has still sold over 250 million units and changed the lives of more people than any other phone. That is what makes the low end interesting.

If Nokia C3 is dirt cheap what about San Francisco by Orange? Full blown Android phone with A-GPS for only £89 if you are a student or existing pay as you go customer.

Nokia knows it nearly xmas time an not everyone can afford to buy the Top end mobiles for the young kids,so thats the only reason Nokia have created this,to help the not so wealthly families out an it might be only priced at about £50,so o.k it might not impress everyone, but a good idea from Nokia

You are confused, because you are not living in a developing country and you lack the imagination to imagine the BOP market and a level up from there.

i think i know why Nokia made this phone.
the chinese-made phones with similar specs are sold for less than US$70 here.
so, the X2-01 is probably Nokia's answer to those chinese phones...
