4 November, 2010
The Samsung I9000 Galaxy S can add another highlight to its connectivity spec list - Wi-Fi Direct. Wi-Fi Direct is a very new technology and the Galaxy S is among the first devices to support it - and certainly the first...

lol typical iphone fan boy zombie responses... Attacking on the smallest of feature lacking.. a flash. Personally I buy a phone for a phone and a camera as additional feature. Iphone 4 had less features overall.

This is a renamed feature though. It is basically as hoc :s.

[deleted post]X10 do not even have multitouch, and Desire is unable to keep a stable 3G-connection and have a so small built in memory that it is impossible to install many games like Asphalt HD... and apps. The problems with Galaxy S can all be fixed, and we know Galaxy S have no camera-flash but we bought the phone anyway because it is more than only a camera.

The Nokia N95 already had this feature.

              Nothing really new..

Just renaming like what Apple did with "Video calling" to "Face-Time"

Roger C, 04 Nov 2010Ahaha funny one. The SGS can't even support decent assisted... moreThe latest firmware, jpa, gives a good gps with satelite-fix from cold-start in less than 5 seconds, and jpa have no more lag than any other phone, lagfix only needed to get high/irrelevant quadrant score.

loool exactly, a phone that doesn't have the simplest hardware doesn't deserve to be called the best smartphone, specially after the reports that 2.2 on this device was laggy as hell! And only god knows when will sammy release it again, and for the people dreaming that sammy will release 2.2 this month, keep dreaming now.

I have been with sammy for years now, and when it comes to their support, they really do suck big time trust me.

Wi-Fi Direct? This is the technology that can connect 2 devices together without the need for a wireless router?

But we can already do that! It's called "adhoc" mode or adhoc connection! When you connect to a wireless router or access point, it's called "infrastructure" mode.

                      So what's the difference?

Roger C, 04 Nov 2010Ahaha funny one. The SGS can't even support decent assisted... moreThe GPS is software issue that is being addressed by samsung (if not there are alternative fixes available). I have no problem with the gps myself, much better than my previous devices, though I suspect it maybe due to my location.
The ram... slow? as far as I know it is not the ram that causes the lags. The lags are caused by the file system (as you mentioned) because it uses an internal card to store and run apps from. There are fixes available for this already but I am not sure whether samsung are addressing this issue. Not all suffer from lags.

Ahaha funny one. The SGS can't even support decent assisted GPS... it sucks both in firmware and hardware implementation of the Broadcom chipset.
Not only it has no GPS but samsungs rfs filesystem and slow rams make it lag a lot.

The only good thing about this phone is the amazing SAMOLED screen and the great sound quality on headphones... I have no idea why so many people keep them. I returned mine.
