I got my Samsung Galaxy S on the 4 Oct 2010.Really awesome phone.Only one flaw lack of LED Flash for Camera. It came with Android 2.1(Eclair) on it.Was using Samsung Omnia 2 before.Big difference compare with Windows Mobile 6.5 OS.The setting menu icon on the Android 2.1 was only white and the RAM was showing 326MB instead of the 512MB as per specifications. No lagging what so ever.Just before the release of Android 2.2 had some issues connecting with Samsung Kies program but not major one.I upgraded to Android 2.2 on the 06 Nov 2010 in Shanghai,China.Took about one hour to download and update the software. All the programs that were installed were kept. But you have to back up your Contact lists as this will be erase in the upgrade. The Android 2.2 has the setting Menu icons in colour.Slightly faster response.Have to download the daily briefing and the accuweather for the Galaxy S.Slight improvement on that too.But instead i was thinking that the RAM will increase from 326MB to 512MB.Well it was reduce from 326MB to 304MB.I tried the internet slightly faster.Got some new wallpapers from the update.I hope they increase the RAM to 512MB.But i doubt it as Samsung generally in updates is not as good as HTC.Overall i am a bit disappointed. Was expecting a bit more i think. But i will take what i got from the update.Recommends the Galaxy S to anyone.Hope Samsung gets better in UL like HTC and hope the coming model that will be reveaed on the 8 Nov 2010 does have a flash along.Really don't regret at all i chose Android over Iphone now.
But overall f

I love my Galaxy, just a shame Kies does not love it, or my computer for that matter. Cant be bothered with samsung customer "support" either.
Time to figure it out for myself.

Ok guys, please be honest here: what results are you getting in Quadrant now? (not custom roms with voodoo, SGSFIX and other stuff, just the clean version on it).
Before it was around 750, what is it now?

ok guys some good news. i managed to toggle autofocus on but the front xenon flash is not working can anyone tell me about this. also the pk.samsungmobile.com says that i cant update beyond 1.6 cupcake but my user manual says that froyo will be available soon. also the samsung new pc studio says(kies doesnt ditect my gti9000) that froyo is available for my phone but will not support 10GB ram. i also managed to turn the wifi direct feature while tightening the screw for auto focus now the file transfer is a charm! will this feature be available in froyo! i also found that the 3.5 inch display is not 640/480 but a retina display found only on iphone 4 so watching 1080p videos on 3.5 inch display is better than any thing. thanks to the dual core humming bird processor(i think i got an leaked galaxy s of future generation which is about to launch in rest of the world)also in the wireless settings i found toggle switch wiMax aka 4G ! so it will be a standard in all the future galaxy s phones

Guys don't take it otherwise. But if you had to Pk. Samsungmobile.com you can see galaxy s gt i9000 with the same specification I have. I mistakenly saw the international website of samsung uk or us even my galaxy s user manual says that I can find the autofocus toggel screw on the mainboard just on the side of 420 MHz clocked samsung dulecore hummingbird processor but the manual also say that I have to be careful because this procedure may damage the10GB ram chip. So I am going to do this and afterwards I will contact you guys meanwhile can someone tell me how to get update 2.2aka froyo

@zh@r, 06 Nov 2010today i purchased a galaxy s in karachi . it is very disapp... moredude, next time do some research. your phone is obviously fake. there is no such variant in galaxy s. a stylus? you got to be kidding. good luck on you using it for capacitive phones.
don't complain here for fake units. go complain to your former school since they didn't teach you the most important thing in the world:
common sense.

So do you recommend updating to Froyo now? Isn't it buggy... moreHi,
I confirm that this froyo version (JPA) works a lot better than the JP6 that amsung stopped few days ago.
I didn't notified any lags.
You can update and you will enjoy it!

Updated from Eclair to Froyo in the UK. Donloaded the latest Kies and had no connectivity issues but it took more than hour to upgrade the firmware.
General navigation feels faster navigation. Sometimes screen stutters during navigation. Not sure if it visual affect or defect, personally I do not like it. There is still a bit of lag at times but not as long as before.
The RAM is displayed as 304MB not 542MB.
My main problem with SGS Eclair was it kept losing previously downloaded emails. It even lost the email account setting. I suspect it was caused by infamous samsung RFS. Too early to say if this has been resolved.
The GPS was very unreliable with Eclair. I have not been able to test it enough. The satellite lock did not happen for me with in 5 mins.
Overall the manufacturer customisation of Android damages Android and the otherwise very good handsets. Google is also to blame as Android is not truly open source. Nobody even knows what is in gingerbread much less contributing to it or manufacturers or developers getting cuts to prepare their devices or applications.

Could ppl who actually updated comment on the performance, benchmark scores and such? The biggeat qustion is, does the update actually unlock whole 512mb of ram? Are lag issues fixed? Or are third party app still required to get the fone to perform the way it should perform outa the box. Lets use these comments section for good and to share info instead of bashing and talking smack about every phone out there
