AnonD-404798, 20 Sep 2016nope , I didn't make an any error , I have taken that in ac... moreIf user experience is more important then top of the line spec then why make a flagship at all.
They do have competition in the IPhone for smaller devices, and as Apple are proving there is still a lot of requirement for this size of phone.
You are correct that it has annoyed me Sony releasing this phone with this spec. it was going to be my upgrade this year. I could have lived with the drop in processor but the lack of official IP rating was a deal breaker. Hoping someone else will see this gap in the market and pick it up. Rumours are that Samsung may to cover the losses from the Note by releasing a mini, but unsure if I could buy another device from them.
Several people on here have all said the same. it's not a compact it's a mini and based on all the information this seems to be the case.
What Sony should have done is not release the z5 series when they did and then release it at the beginning of the year with the 820. that would have really given them a competitive edge. as it stands Sony have released the X series which is all over the place, some are top spec some not. some with waterproofing some not. some are waterproof but not advertised. You cannot say what Sony have done this year shows any more then the fact they are a bit confused on what to release and what to call their devises.

you are too upset bc SONY didn't make small phone with a flagship specs , why would they? they have no competition in that category , so they've put a decent specs inside for cheaper price and people who really want a smaller phone will buy it anyway ... user experience is proving to be more important lately than just top of the line specs .

It also has less RAM in the phone as well as "on paper"....PML.
You asked what was poorer about the old compact, well thats it....!
I'm not arguing that it needs that RAM or because its smaller it requires less all I said was the spec it less.
You seem to have made an error now making argument based on opinion rather then facts.
Again you need to read my points atleast twice before commenting.
I did not say Sony cannot make a smaller midrange phone just that most other companies call this a Mini rather then a comapact.
The compact model WAS unique and a work of genius in that it both directly competed with Apple in their screen size category and was a flagship in Android. It also stuck two fingers up at Samsung for their poor best effort in that size category.
Great battery, flagship processor, additional removable storage and was waterproof.
The latest iteration of the compact is a poor representation of that model, and no better then the mini's we see from Samsung. it has nothing over the compatible apple other then removable memory.
Purely that is my point, it is not a true compact as compact were flagships.
Sony can make whatever devices they want but brand accordingly so a great model is not diminished by a poor offering like the current model.

I was ready to shell out the money for such a device. Oh well, maybe there will be an X Performance Compact, or XZ Compact. Or maybe it'll be like the Z series, and we wont see a really good compact again until the X3 generation.

Apart from the screen, not exactly a top dog.

And even slacking the requirement a few mm, does not exactly make the top dogs jump on the list. The odd camera hybrid Panasonic CM1 could be seen as an exception, though the cpu was old on release (32 bit).

...and note that all modern 'Compacts' are much larger than the Arc that was considered almost ridiculously huge in 2011 with its 63mm...

I was trying to say that SonyEricsson back in 2011 was the last time ANY brand released multiple sizes of their top-dog device.

All Compact versions (any brand) since have been at the least slightly inferior to its big brother.
Usually a lower resolution screen (at the best more or less same PPI), try and do the compare with any Compact and its bigger brother, and you will see the problem.

Personally I have been looking for a top speced compact since 2011, and found none. A few came close but never to the top. The ONLY difference on the three back in 2011 was that they not all had a hardware button for the camera!!! The rest were all the same, with scaled displays of same resolution (FWVGA)

It is still 'impossible' to find a phone sized device with full HD only Phablets has that - and before you say the resolution is too high for the size, look at all the QHD phablets with high resolution....
(Yes I know Sharp have made several over the years for the Japanese market, that are not designed to be exported to nets outside)

like I said it's compact of Xperia X which is a midrange phone , so of course it doesn't fall in flagship category but it's a bit cheaper and it doesn't miss anything(besides front cam) from it's bigger variant ( Xperia X ) so it's a comapct , not mini .

I don't get you why it has to be comapct variant of a flagship , you would deny SONY right to make smaller(compact) variants of their other midrange phones ?

your comment: "previous compacts which had same specs equal to flagship"
this year the compact is a variation of the Xperia X which is not a flagship.
So the X compact is not a true compact it is a mini.
your statement has validated my opinion that Sony has lost the plot this year and degraded the compact label.
