iPhone 4 is the most reliable yet breakable smartphone out there

10 November, 2010
SquareTrade, the largest independent warranty provider, rated some of the most popular smartphones out there by their reliability and as it turns out, Apple's iPhone 4 suffers from the least non-accident malfunctions...

Do you have God of War, Gran Turismo, Pokemon Heart Gold/Soul Silver on the iPhone? Nope. With the announcement of the more powerful 3DS and PSP2, hell the iPhone 4 doesn't even compare anymore.

And besides, games are best played on consoles and the PC, not mobile handsets. Why do you game on a non-gaming device, anyway? You bought the phone primarily for its phone functions, not as a main gaming device.

Period. The failure percentage of Nokia phones would be too low to be listed here.

Excuse me but the title of this article itself makes no sense, how come a device can considered the most reliable if it is so breakable? How can that possible make sense? How can I rely on a phone that will break so easily if I accidentally drop it ONCE or involuntarily accumulates dust and breaks the rear glass (glassgate)? And nevermind the antenaggate.

But in all fairness and as other readers pointed out, they did not list Nokia and listed 2 specific Apple devices while the other brands did not (I'm a Motorola Milestone user myself) and I don't believe fro a second that so many iPhones happen to fail that much, I mean Apple has become a joke because of steve jobs but he is not the one building the phones.

My conclusion is that this whole article is very questionable.

The omission of Nokia in this study makes me question the fairness and completeness of this article. Although I am no longer a Nokia user, I found Nokia phones to be very rugged when I was using them, including their smartphones.

                            Anyone remember the 6500 Slide?

It had a little piece of metal on the back cover which pushed down a switch for the memory card.

The slightest twist or bump when sliding would disconnect the memory card and force the phone into a reset.

That was probably the worst design flaw I've ever seen that and the screen fading on 8210's.

GSM Arena has always been hard on iPhones since the very beginning, look at the titles of iPhone reviews.

They, like most of the tech media were caught out by just how successful Apple would become in this area.

Claims of bias coming from differing sides, shows that there is a level of impartiality in GSM Arena's articles.

Very interesting, and good to have the hearsay substantiated by some hard data from a (presumably) impartial third party.

I wonder where Nokia sits? Middle-ground on all stats?

Such a biased report. There are 2 phones (iPhone 3GS and 4) from one manufacturer (Apple), yet the biggest handset manufacturer of handsets was excluded (Nokia) while other manufacturers couldn't even get the current flagship devices mentioned.

It's funny that people forget their maths.
                                      82% means 82 out of 100.
I highly doubt 82 iPhone 4s out of 100 are faulty.
