Nokia N8 gets severely tortured, lives to tell the story

11 November, 2010
A unibody anodized aluminum chassis and a reinforced glass over the panel make the Nokia N8 certainly look like one of the sturdiest smartphones around. And the Finnish company is keen to show just how...

"Severely tortured?" Am I watching a different video? Seems to me like the phones are falling three feet onto a non-angular surface. Wow. Severe.

I've dropped my Nokia phones probably hundreds of times and never broke one. Been able to broke few phones from other manufacturers though.

Still, nothing is as ridiculously easy to break as the new iPhone 4. I've already seen several shattered phones and the funniest thing is the Apple fans just say "Well it was my/your own fault. I mean they can't make phones drop proof right?"

m using N8 for a while now. Bought a silicon casing n a screen protector when bought N8. but the feel of n8 in a hand without any casin is so awesome that now m not using any screen protector or casing fot it n tried most of thhese tests over it. The screen glass is so strong that it can bear all the wear n tear. The aluminium body is great advantage as wel....al in al the best n the most durable handset in the market...wel done nokia

Cocco Bill, 11 Nov 2010Dear troll... They don't slide, they drop. Look at the shap... moredear noob, go learn some physics. When the phone is at the top of the box, it slides down a bit as the momentum swings around. Notice how the box swings and not completely vertically 'drop'? I can roll an egg down a 10ft incline and not have it cracked compare to dropping it 10ft vertically.

And secondly, there's no strong opposite force acting on the phone as it drops to the bottom of the box. It seems like you'll get a slight vibration but other than that, no real damage as the energy from the landing dissipates throughout the box. I got a test that doesnt require million dollar machine; go outside and drop from waist-high to hard cement and see how forgiving the ground is.

I dropped my N8 twice while repairing my dish antenna about 7 feet high still nothing happens. It's like rock solid. I love my nokia, it feels so nice on hand. Thank you nokia...

Why is country music being played in the background of this video? Since when did Nokia run by a bunch of rednecks from the Midwest or should I say Tea Party followers?

Hey, do a real "Drop Test". You are not using your N8 inside the soft box. Drop it on a solid ground. Let's see what happens.

Heh would be nice to see what an iPhone would look like after test like that. I've seen one shattered when dropped from knee height.

And to those who think these drops were still too small...

Here is a link to someone dropping N8 from 3 meters to concrete.

Last Nokia I had was an E52 - it's the last Nokia I'll ever buy.
The N8 is so yesterday anyways.

Garejnc, 11 Nov 2010Lame video, official blog and not a huge fall (it would me ... more"Lame video and not a huge fall", you say. But what exactly is your point? Do you think it's a more realistic approach to let the phones take a drop from the top of your roof, than from the height of your palm down to the floor? How the hell are you using your phone?? Like a juggling ball, throwing it up in the air? Seriously. There wouldn't be any point in showing huge drops since nobody uses their phones like that anyway - and because of that simple fact, no manufacturer has to build their phones to withstand such brute handling.
