Nokia N8 gets severely tortured, lives to tell the story

11 November, 2010
A unibody anodized aluminum chassis and a reinforced glass over the panel make the Nokia N8 certainly look like one of the sturdiest smartphones around. And the Finnish company is keen to show just how...

I am the owner of an E72 which does suprise me ever so often how good it takes falls and scratches... without showing them much.
Symbian on it is way faster than my Windows Xperia X1 I used before, and the cam proved to be a very good snapper.
I'm especially fond of the strong LED which often serves as a flashlight and that I can wirelessly at home and in the office to a range of scanners without the crappy add on PC software stuff that my colleagues need to use (and most often doesn't work for them).

I'd have loved to see a E7 with Meego in the manner like the upcoming Motorola Droid Pro seems to be, because - I've never believed it priorly, but the Blackberry-style candybar QWERTY phone is a superior layout to side-snapping texters in the actual use, because it really works one-handed and is simply quicker.

I am not sure why the editor always put nokia news on the front page either.. for these not so relevant specs, i am not saying its not impressive but innit they can do better about N8 if they really want to sell it?

Guess Nokia pays a lot to GSMarena to promote N8. :)
        just a guess

@ "And that's classified as a drop test phones sliding from one end to the other lol, c'mon now!"

Please note that the box has a lip/bulge at each end which would hold the N8 till it is almost at the top of the rotation when it would FALL, not slide, down. Do you really think a bunch of people that likely all have Master's degrees in Engineering would miss possibility of sliding?

Anonymous, 11 Nov 2010N8 forum again? haayysss... Borrriiiinnngggg.. why... moreBecause N8 is the flagship of Nokia - just as Galaxy S is of Samsung, and your precious Xperia models is of Sony Ericsson (which you spent half yesterday on honoring in the X12 thread) - so everything about them automatically holds a higher news worth since a lot of people want to know stuff about 'em. GSM Arena also have an obligation to post news everyday, so they grab what related news they find and update the site. Ok?

And on another note - all news on GSM Arena make it to the front page, so just deal with it. Go with it.

I've been using an N8 for three plus weeks now and it has not hung on me once, or required a reboot. To be fair it might act a little slow at times, but when I check the open apps, I always see that I'm running 5 plus at the same time, so can't blame it too much, especially when I leave the camera and Ovi Maps opened. Which I have done on a couple city trips. However, if it was an iPhone, and just didn't have multitasking, that would not be an issue, the pictures would be worse, and I'd be paying roaming charges for Navigation too.

Overall, experience has been very positive to date. Sybian could and should have more "WOW!!! Factor" but it does everything like I'd expect and a few things exceptionally well (Photo's, Maps, multiple e-mail accounts). Given what Nokia have said, I am pretty sure we'll be seeing more WOW!!! added to future updates of Symbian too. However, I personally don't put too much weight on fancy transitions, and hope they put more development time into the Nokia Browser so it's closer competition to the Opera Browser that I am currently using as my primary "lens" to the internet.

It needs to be strong for all the children that are buyimg and using this toy. Symbian do not need any extra outside "help" to make N8 crash anyway.

hey guys, wouldn't you mind if you try to drop your phone as n8 does. Do you think it will surpass n8's hardware. If it does please do a video and share the link.
