Nokia N8 gets severely tortured, lives to tell the story

11 November, 2010
A unibody anodized aluminum chassis and a reinforced glass over the panel make the Nokia N8 certainly look like one of the sturdiest smartphones around. And the Finnish company is keen to show just how...

Nokia high-end phones are the most customizable and flexible gizmos out. And it doesn't matter what other 0Ses fanboys troll here. Any rational person would want a flexible, multitasking and reliable smartphone. A phone that is different things when i want it to be. A phone that can only be Nokia. Final verdict.

Anonymous, 13 Nov 2010my N8 HDMI cover crack already.......is it crack on H side?

just the outside layer crack..I think is press it using too much force or bend it. Hope Nokia get known on this issue and use more better plastic material for HDMi cover.

Anonymous, 12 Nov 2010AH, a new lie. The iphone software updates "brick"... moreThis year, I had four friends with 3GS who had to take their devices in to an Apple store (or send them away) after a software update.

Chris, 13 Nov 2010I know 1thing, symbian is history.. As i saw previews of N8... moreThe old S60 is starting to be history. One very big piece of cellphone history. You know why? Because it is getting old.

On the other hand, the new S^3 phones are selling really well and I think it has a very bright future ahead. You can expect a few glitches with a totally new OS, but the first big update isn't just fixing things, it is actually bringing loads of more features.

More and more apps are coming out and Nokia is actually having trouble getting the apps through QA fast enough. Here is a link if you don't believe me:

                          http://tamss60.tamoggemon.com/2010/11/12/nokia-ovi-qa-is-overloaded/

Does Symbian seem like dying? To me it seems like a normal change of generation.

I know 1thing, symbian is history.. As i saw previews of N8 i realised that it is not much for this os. It should have more cpu power. My x6 crashes before n after the updates, it's very annoying. If i could i would've smash it but i'm crying the money i had to pay for this nokia serries. Now i'll buy samsung wave cause it's a kick-ass for this catergory. I'm expecting the iphone 5 with the dual processors if it's real or my next phone will be LG Optimus. Not a word for nokia anymore...

At least Nokia N8 don't have a glass body. And I'm sure iphone4 wouldnt pass a test like that. And people here bashes the N8 of its software. Come on people, the topic's here is the hardware. Yer all off-topics. What a bunch of spammers. Btw, Nokia 5110 would pass that kind of test, with flying colors!

Sails, 13 Nov 2010Heh find me a review that says N8 lags, because it certainl... morethe problem is, people are not used to real multitasking
thats why the n8 lags because people exit games, browsers by using menu key
if they were to have the courtesy to learn anything about a phone they're bashing, they wouldnt be here at all

as far as i can understand, the only criticism people here have are the slow cpu and ugly os

comparing screen size the optimized os, the cpu is more than adequate
and the os can change themes and ever its entire appearance, unlike some other os

all in all, every phone has its flaws (n8 will get an update which will solve many problems, no os was perfect from the start, but this comes close)
and repeating such minor flaws of the n8 will not make them bigger
haters will just look more desperate

thank you for your time, i hope someone with a clear head will respond

Anonymous, 13 Nov 2010The N8 cannot even handle it's own OS right now. :))The n8 is not to be blamed for the restart prob. There are two major reasons :

                                  1) Users install apps that are not fully compatible with Symbian^3 (e.g certain s60v5 apps)

                                  2) Symbian^3 is not really stable yet

And before you go on and comment something like (haha, symbian^3 is not stable), do keep in mind that symbian^3 is just a month old, thus is still in its infancy stage and a lot of improvements can be done on it. BTW, still remember the first version of android, it had the same prob that symbian^3 has now

Anonymous, 13 Nov 2010Yes. And it lagged.Heh find me a review that says N8 lags, because it certainly doesn't.

If you tried a demo unit that 50 other people had played with before, did you check how many apps were you running in the background? Because only way I get it to lag is to leave games, OVI maps and browser etc. running, while trying to do something.
