Probably has a lot to do with the power key being in a spot where accidental presses are highly improbable. Good design takes into consideration the natural tendencies of a device's environment and users. Unlike a certain antenna design... :--P

                Unless holding the on key overrides the phonelock in which case it could reset your phone if it's pressed accidentally for 10 seconds.

                                      I have had my N8 for about a month now. It is working perfectly fine. It might be the best phone in the world, but it is still a machine. I wonder what would need to be done, when the phone will finally hang at some stage. For other phones, it was easy to remove the battery and then put it back in ... Could anyone comment on that?
