And there will be unofficial support for it many years after that. If you're all about specs and reasonable price-tag but shoddy software support and not having the latest sweet features from Android then just go ahead and buy a Chinese phone. This isn't for you.

AnonD-196068, 05 Oct 2016That may well be true and I am tempted to agree but that do... moreI think anything over $400 is overpriced lol but the Pixel phone is still kickass top to bottom (except for maybe the back but that's subjective), if you want a phone for the reasons I provided then it's worth it. This is Googles official answer to Apple and Samsung, not another budget reference Nexus model.

Pricey and no micro-sd slot. Sorry Google, I'm keeping my N5 and see next year.

AnonD-428442, 05 Oct 2016It's the same. Nexus WAS designed to be just a reference m... moreWell that's plobably true.
Google already tried to compete against Apple/Samsung with nexus 6P (or even before) packing premium tastes, thus original nexus concept diverged long time ago. -check
Next time around, they change brand name to make consumer believe something new comes up. -aye, guilty

But still, unlike nexus, starting to design hardware by Google's own from scratch and giving up being pure Android, are quite big deal, at least big enough for giving them a diffrent name.

I don't mean to justify its price. I'm in the same boat, especially XL's price is way too much! :-(
We are totally free to pass it.

But those who justifies iPhone's price; i.e Pixel's target consumer would find Pixel not ridiculously overpriced. Brand image aside, Nougat with Google AI is way more enjoyable than iRipoff so it's safe to say courageous brand switcher would be happy to join Android world. That's what I thought

If it become available in my country and mark down the price by good chunk, I'd buy 5"...

Booted laptop, launched browser, visited a preferred video streaming site to begin listening to a playlist of various DJ sets first, visited GSMA second, saw Pixels' headline, clicked on it, skipped every word till the availability and pricing paragraphs before reading other important info which had been skipped that hasn't already been specified or reported in past news or that hasn't already been to my knowledge, and glimpsed back to read such prices? Call me OC but for a good few seconds, I couldn't believe my eyes, what I was seeing, and couldn't take my eyes off the price. It went off like a mantra in my head: 'Six-forty-nine. Six-forty-nine. Six-four-nine... Six... Four... Nine...' I wondered why it reminded me of a not-long-ago rumor news because, oh yeah, then I quickly remembered myself having to comment on that particular rumor article. One such rumor wherein the source link reports a trusted source by Android Police told Android Police that Google Pixel will start at $649.

As for I who consider and perceive how rumor news (at least in GSMA as I have observed) have been growing increasingly accurate by the day (maybe thanks to trusted and reliable sources holding on to their credibility and reputation just so journalists could contact, approach, or reach back to them as if on repeat is a sit-down talk or some coffee and tea party with an A-lister star celebrity; either that or I don't know), I intuited how the price is going to ROUGHLY end up with. And so in that said rumor article, I commented, "I hope it is not an October Fool's Joke," in hopes that the rumored starting price will turn out accurately correct even though I found the price quite high. Now that the Pixel duo has recently been unveiled, I laugh at the fact that the claim of Pixel asking $649 for its starting price once was a rumor is actually not a joke now. Now that the Pixel duo's pricing has recently been made official, I should be able to laugh (since it clearly is a laughable matter now) at a comment saying, "It's "leaked" information so that when they announce it's "only" 550 dollars people will be relieved!!", and at another one doubting how the smaller Pixel starts at the claimed rumor of $649 with the Pixel XL priced accordingly.

Navigate through this link if one wants to trace back the comments and the article itself: http://www.gsmarena.com/google_pixel_will_start_at_649_rumor_claims-news-20593.php

Also, this mentality person will not change the phone frequently. They will keep the one beyond your expectation.

Product will get success only when it comes in a right time with right specifications along with reasonable price tag.

303tk4, 05 Oct 2016The concepts behind Nexus ain't identical to Pixel... Nexus... moreIt's the same.
Nexus WAS designed to be just a reference model. This was true for the Nexus One, and maybe Nexus S. Starting with the Galaxy Nexus, Google started to position Nexus as an actual competing phone. The Nexus 4 was heavily advertised even in shopping malls. It continues the trend, bringing top spec at its incarnation.

The Pixel is the same thing. The only thing that's different is the branding. Google tried charging premium for the Nexus 6, and it didn't do too well. They want to keep the premium pricing, so they change the brand. Regular people won't notice. Pixel was a premium brand to begin with, started with the thousand dollar Chromebook.

That's about it. Everything else is still the same. It's made by an OEM (HTC), and sold in the same very limited market (just like Nexus). No changes there. Nexus used to have their own launcher as well, until Google made it available on the Play store. Same thing here. Google started the new features as Pixel exclusive, but later on I can see them making it available for any Android system.

So same old shit, just new name (to trick people that it's worth the higher price). Can't blame Google for trying. Everybody is the same (eg. Sony changing their lineup into X series and charging more).
