Did something change in how Amperex makes their battery post-recall? Why could they suddenly not produce batteries for the affected Note7's with the same consistency as batteries produced for the China-exclusive Note7's pre-recall? Those Note7's in China hadn't any reported incidents before Samsung were calling for their first recall and I assume those same China units still hadn't any before second recalls went live from Samsung's mouth and before discontinuation of Note7's production was officiated shortly after.
Anyhow, despite how its death may mean an affordable loss for Samsung, it was still a bold strategy for Samsung to do so. At least, they wouldn't risk losing any further if an unforeseen third recall was to happen. When a first recall is already costing, a second recall becomes more taxing, what more losses could a third impose? A third recall is just not worth risking and may just be a full-on blow to the company's reputation when an upcoming flagship model is less than 6 months away. Now they can shift their focus and concentrate their resources on either their previous flagship duo S7 and S7 edge or their upcoming S8. I'd rather they spend their time now more than ever to up the ante on quality checks and control for the S8 than waste their resources and effort for recalling and investigating. All they have to do now is to effectively reimburse or replace those Note7's, done deal. The latest S-Pen just isn't worth the trade-off for a device that it gets inserted to is a safety hazard. S-Pen lovers may just have to wait for another Note model. And whatever will happen to Note7's China units, any detailed news on that? If they get to keep theirs, good for them, sucks to be those using non-China units

For one mistake, we shouldn't forget that Samsung has been offering great all around devices.

These ridiculous sealed phones. You want pretty, you got it. Iphone batteries go bad too, and what's safer about you not being able to replace your own battery? Is it safer to have the whole phone explode instead? Are you really that stubborn to not see what the whole Note 7 fiasco is showing you?

the first recall, they admitted they put batteries too large for the phone and squished the corners which caused it to short. second recall, who knows.

Iphones and Htc phones have sealed batteries and don't have this issue! Of course it is samsung's fault. And phones with non removable batteries are safer. You can't easily change the battery with a chinese copy and you can't damage the battery during handling. Also i can change my iPhone's battery in my local repair shop for 15£ or if i want to be extra safe i can ask apple to replace it. Get real, samsung really "squeezed" the battery in Note 7.
Making the same mistake twice is unforgivable. I would only consider apple, htc or even pixels from now on.

I am certain most other major technology companies are going to have similar practices in house, so as extremely confidential and potentially highly lucrative information doesn't fall in to the wrong hands. I wouldn't say this was out of hand in any way whatsoever.

So After all '7' was not(e) lucky for Samsung. They should have sticked to '6'
With note 7 blunder it would wipe of 1/3 of the annual profit. Lucky for Samsung it has other business like semiconductor and also S7 & S8 edge also doing very good.
Had this blunder happened to Apple IP7 it would have wiped of 100% of annual profit.
With Korean government backing to Samsung they will bounce back. Another 3-4 months S8 will be out and hopefully they would recover the peoples confidence on quality.

Like it matters or not anymore if it was the battery or not. Just deal with the fact that Shamesung already lost more than 13 BILION. Ouch!
I wouldn't use one of their phones now even if they gave it to me for free and pay me extra!
