Cant believe half of the rubbish written here....Samsung's only mistake here was trusting the battery manufacturers...even then there were only a small percentage of handsets that caught fire and i am still not convinced that all of these fires were of the phones fault....Again Samsung behaved responsibly in trying to eliminate the issues .....In the last week we have seen over 7 examples of iphone 7 customers handsets catching fire and what was the response from news agencies...nothing.......so there does seem to be a rule for 1 and a different set of rules for another.
Just picked up my Samsung S7 edge , a brilliant handset that works with my vr headset'
One other point is that there seems to be a pattern of handsets catching fire only in the usa .....not really sure why , maybe the phone was too clever for the general american......i dont want to tar all americans with the same brush.....but as we say over here .....there are a lot of donald trump supporters in the usa and we all know their general understanding is limited

Ok, gsmarena - great site you have - I love it. But your headline here for this article, containing the word 'tomorrow' - do you understand the problem? Tomorrow is always, well, tomorrow. And yes, you did put the actual date in the article. How about in the headline?

I had predicted same thing yesterday for all those who wish not to return the device.
But I didn't expect that the offenders will face prosecution.
It seems it is necessary for safety of life and property. Hopefully Indian authorities will follow the good practice example set up by FAA.

Regardless of how safe or useful Note 7, if it is completely banned on flight, frequent flyer including myself will have no choice but just use different phone. I'm not going to put up with a hustle of using 2 phones and switch SIM around every I need to get on the plane.

mixa, 15 Oct 2016It's too much hassle for the airport and attendance to chec... moreThis is getting silly! Note 7 banned is sufficient for air traveler to do the right thing. If someone finds it useful, they might still use it !!! You just can't take piston and ask everyone to hate Samsung just because they are far superior (except their Battery supplier apparently screwed it up - like Apple says when they screw things up, blame it on suppliers) to all American Mobile phones! iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 plus looks really really cheap....I used to have iPhones since 2007 onwards, it is getting cheaper and cheaper every iteration. Not worth it. Samsung is only improving its overall price performance aspects.

It's too much hassle for the airport and attendance to check every persons phone off its exactly Note 7.This will probably soon escalate to ban of all Samsung devices that lookalike Note7, just watch.

AnonD-429239, 15 Oct 2016Poor Samsung, they were so obsessed with outselling iPhone ... moreThat's what happens when a company cares more about defeating and matching competition instead of focusing on its own plans. That is how microsoft lost the Internet battle to google, that is how google lost social media battle to facebook..

Carriers are already sending generic text messages to return the Note7 ASAP. I can't stand people wanting to keep their Note7. That's another level of stupidity over selfish pride ajd attachment over a phone that will disposed anyway. Their IQ truly is Project Zero. How can the Note7 be a collector's item? Because it might be the last Note? It is a dangerous even if inside the box while it is powered down! Nobody would want that. Note7 is the Kim Jong-un phone!
Note7 was also mass produced in the millions. It isn't exactly rare like say a phone where only less than 200 were made. I would rather find a copy of Stadium Events for the NES than an unopened box of a Note7. If you want to be a wiser capitalist, buy a jet black iPhone 7 Plus in the US for $900+ and sell it on eBay for $1.2-1.5K. That's how to make money and being safe at doing it. Not keeping a time bomb that is extremely hard to fix according to iFixit and has a sealed battery that degrades even when it isn't turned on.
If you love the S-Pen too much, getting the Note 4 or Note5 is your only hope. While the Note5 went backwards without microSD slot and removable batt, at least it isn't a dual edged phone and safer to use. While the Note 4 might be the greatest Note thanks to being the final Note with removable battery ever even if it isn't water-resistant. No doubt 2014 was the last year Samsung was thinking practical. The real Samsung died two years ago.
Galaxy S5 was so maligned for design when it didn't deserve to be. Because 2015 starting with S6 edge is when Samsung wanted to boost their design scores towards whiny reviewers who wanted DESIGN DESIGN DESIGN and hated plastic when that is actually more practical to use than glass that cracks and metal that dents. By catering to clueless fashionistas brainwashed by Apple is when Samsung created their own downfall. Design fades. Performance and practical features lasts. Note 4 still holding up because of that mantra.

Savor, 15 Oct 2016Worse than smuggling drugs in a plane like cocaine. Stubbor... moreYou should consider the Oneplus 3. I've only heard good things about it and a lot of reputable reviewers seem to be satisfied enough with it to use it as their main phone (anandtech reviewer, phonebuff, etc.)
