Antennagate 2: HTC responds to the HD7 antenna death grip

3 December, 2010
The iPhone 4 isn't the only smartphone suffering from bad reception indeed. We already reported, that the HTC HD7 is among the other affected too. And here's what HTC has to say about the issue: it's perfectly...

I havent noticed any problems with my HD7 except that the physical button s on the phone suck you they dont stick out enough for you to be able to press it with out braking a sweat. I have to push way harder then normal to get a response from the physical buttons on the phone.

The iPhone 4 has excellent reception Anandtech confirmed this by showing that the iPhone 4 maintains a signal when other phones drop out.

Apple admitted to nothing, they responded to a rabid fanboi free for all.

Show one link, to one qualified RF expert who can verify your claim.

Problem is you can't because there is no such thing, you are in a fantasy world.

Anonymous, 07 Dec 2010I don't use a case with my iPhone 4 and it works fine, I ha... moreYes - they both drop bars when held (as would pretty much any phone), but the causes for this are completely different. No other phone needed a case to work properly (as admitted by Apple) and no other phone drops bars that severe when touched with just one finger. You might have IQ of 50 suffering from a mental illness or from being just plain stupid (I'm not implying they you do, just an example here) - same issue, different reasons.
About links to textbooks. I told you already - the place you need to go to learn those things is an university. Not internet reading random 'links'. Go there, they will tech you, you'll do experiments to confirm the theory and eventually you'll see that asking for "hard numbers" when working in the reactive field of an antenna is ... silly to say the least.

tkolev, 07 Dec 2010So if being close to the antenna is the same as touching it... moreI don't use a case with my iPhone 4 and it works fine, I have tested holding a lot of iPhone 4's and have never been able to reproduce the rubbish that you claim.

So where are the textbooks from these professors explaining this?

          Link please.

(I know you won't because there are none, you're just parroting a fanboi fantasy.)

How does it explain other phones eg the HTC HD7 experiencing EXACTLY THE SAME ISSUES?

It's easy to understand why that thing has happened with Apple and not Nokia, Aclatel, Motorola or HTC. It's a good thing that they don't manufacture base stations (yet), or I should really start looking for another profession ;)

You are still in the near-field zone of the antenna, so you are still affecting it's performance. Please get a proper education after (and if) you finish high school and then come back to say what you have learned there. Also notice if any of your professors that teach you RF fundamentals have iPhones. If they do, then maybe the community college wasn't worth it after all...

Iphone4 users obviously were able to deal with the issue easily by either getting a case, install invisible shield, or simply avoid that very small area. The iphone4's antenna is external, and by shorting it, it causes the signal to drop. While on this HTC phone, the antenna is internal. Meaning, the user is not even physically touching the antenna. So a case will not even remedy the issue. The only remedy is to avoid gripping that area. Good thing about the iphone4 is, you know exactly which particular area to avoid from touching or gripping (that tiny black strip). You can't with this HTC phone.

[deleted post]Eating arsenic would be as stupid as trying to tell others that touching an aerial has any greater or lesser effect than merely being in close proximity to an aerial especially when you have ZERO hard data to back your claims up and grasp at important sounding straws.

Reportedly, he told them that the design is flawed, but they chose not to listen to him, because the girls would like the shiny look of glass and metal. I'm going to say this one last time: touching the antenna messes with it's impedance tuning to the transceiver inside the phone and the impedance of the air. Whether you choose to believe me or live in the blessed Apple fangirl ignorance is up to you.
And the fact that you say "nothing" happened with your FM receiver by holding the exposed antenna tells me one thing only - it's you that's full of... Apple.

Nice headline, the Sun newspaper could not do better, it does seem that gsm arena like to experiment with being journalists, but facts on this not sure. Every RF device is going to have issues if you stick your hand on antenna. Why not go back to phones with external antenna, and produce one that gives ultimate signal for those who need it? Even just make one handset that you know is top notch for those in a bad reception area, like me in a London area that cannot get anything on 900 Mhz (o2/Voda) at home (true London and cannot get Voda the carrier with the 'best' coverage Three works though!).
