LG G6 won't have any Friends as the company gives up on modular accessories

21 October 2016
The one-off modular experiment didn't work out for the G5, so LG is dropping it completely.

I won't be your beta tester and still have to pay $600-700. At least Samsung doesn't suddenly kill things.

Is there a "V20 mini" phone? Like, something like V20 but with 5-5.3 inch screen? 5.7 is just too large for me, although I like some of the ideas they used in V20.

As far as I understand, LG V34 isai is Japan-only device. Will there be an international version? Any info?

All that I wanted from LG are:

        Bigger (>3500 mAh) battery
Same or better camera (yes, V10, G5, and V20 camera is great)
        Side- or front-mounted fingerprint sensor
        Front-facing stereo speakers
The really useful tap to lock/wake

If they release such a phone, then they can take my cash.

The only modular design that makes sense was Project Ara. Shame it got killed (or kinda forgotten). But you have to give it to LG, failure or not, at least they are trying something different. Most of the companies don't have the guts. I personally would love to see LG G Flex 3. #2 was great, apart from overheating Snapdragon 810, which made me sell the phone after several months. Great concept though, and the only curved screen design that makes sense to me.

That Guy, 21 Oct 2016The issue is not the phone being modular, the problem is th... moreEveryone keeps saying they are ugly but in hand I don't see a problem. Plus I rock a case too so doesn't matter.

All phones generally look the same anyway excluding the Sammy Edge models.. Just a slab with a screen. I also bought it because I like supporting the underdogs like LG so they don't go under and then Samsung and Apple will then have the ability to jack up the phone prices to infinity like they are already trying to do.

The G5 is the most fluid phone I have ever used. Even after 6 months, It has no lag like a certain lagwiz phone I know. But the underpowered battery and screen burn in are annoying. I might pick up the G6 next year if its decent or go with a One Plus 4 when it's available.

But agree with the article, the current modules are useless and I am disappointed that they reneiged on their promise to support it.

But one thing is certain: G5 is a good phone just some people don't like its back.
Hope they could make an enhanced G2 with latest specs.

LG, just put yourself on customer view. Customer don't want waste money for handset and module. It's too much.

Thank god! What LG needs to do with the G6 is: good design like the G4, continue with the good camera modules, stick a 3500mAh bat inside, snap830, 4GB ram, fast charge, keep 2K screen, wireless charge, sdcard, dual speakers, water resistant and come with a good price, inferior to Galaxy S8. Is that so hard to do? c'mon LG...

You don't have to charge the Lg g5 that's the beauty of the modular design one has to only charge the cradle with the extra battery and switch them like a gun clip. To me thats revalutionary why go to a new phone that we have to plug in. You know what it feels like not having to plug in your phone. Amazing! Having to plug your phone to the wall is going backwards. And the craddle is only 80$. Without the modular design we literally have to wait for the phone to charge. The g5 with the mod design you do not. That's way better!

good, as modular phones need to be built to order or ship with all the modules in the box, as after spending $600 on a new phone you aren't going to want to spend the same on the modules.
