8 December, 2010
Bad news fellas - the LG Optimus One P500 is obviously going to be stuck at Froyo for the rest of its life. The device that is certainly one of the best bargains you can get this holiday season, but despite being...

LG pulls back, 'will evaluate' upgrading Optimus series to Gingerbread when specs and source code are public

"LG released information prematurely regarding the minimum processor upgrade requirements for the LG Optimus. Google recently announced the Gingerbread platform and has not yet published the Gingerbread Compatibility Definition Document (CDD) or the public branch open source code. Once the CDD and the source code is public, LG will evaluate the upgradability of the Optimus Series. We apologize for any confusion or misunderstanding. We will alert you as soon as more information on this topic is available."

maybe if lg planned of releasing a 2.3 update for 01...there's a bigger chance for them to achieve their goal of 10million sales of 01...hope those (early)statements would not affect their sales for that unit...

Actually, I think the real problem lies within Android OS.

The updates have become too fast, but still too fragmented and too buggy.

And with each update, the minimum requirements also increase too much (ie. 2.3 to 3.0, you need at least 1GHz for 3.0).

LOL That's why Android is a crap, they release thousand of new versions and you have to hope for your manufacter release the update for your phone, or you'll be stuck with an outdated version. That's why iOS is better than this shit.

This is true. Why would we upgrade the Optimus One to Gingerbread when we can just sell you the Optimus Two? Think people, think. I'm one of the members of Optimus two.

This is not true. Optimus one will be upgraded to Gingerbread in 1st quarter of next year. I'm one of the member of Optimus one.

First it's just the Moto XT720 and now it's LG O1. It seems like manufacturers are not willing to support their low-mid level phones. They are going to make Android famous with this. No support for low-mid level phones.

Hey, just check the source provided in the page. its not an announcement. its a reply. so it can happen that they just replied. not their LG team but someone who don't have much experience in this field.

whatever be, LG now have to offer 2.3 update (to prove the above statement is wrong) else bear the loss of millions on the Optimus One handset (decreased sell or lower price). whatever LG choose.

BTW, read this: "android mobile that got no support from their manufactures, XDA guys gives the support".

lol, Just shows LG's expertise with Android, or, their FB / PR Teams, whatever, shows a company's attitude to its customers who do not buy their flagship models, and, this just royally sucks.

Thanks to xda, without which we would have been stuck on outdated and bloated OS'es. (They even got a 2.3 port to the Wildfire!, Obviously, its just a start so just the phone part works, but, its a start)

                              +1 to passer.

its like LG too proud & jealous of O1's success. really, is LG MAD? they better not, and lets take it as a mistake/typo. at least that way we'll get 2.3 on O1 sometime in future else. also 2.3 doesn't bring whole lot to the table.

and look at the bring side. Xpera got 2.1 update & may "never" see 2.2. 2.3? forget it. also O1 already offering good value by providing good H/W at good price but frankly, this news will eat into their sales surely. again, is LG MAD?

Anonymous, 08 Dec 2010I doubt any one actually cares. The current UK price is aro... moreWhere are you getting that price from? The current UK Price varies but it is not as high as that. The cheapest is currently Orange at £126, slightly more than the SanFrancisco(ZTE Blade. The things I like about this over the blade is that is froyo out of the box, divx support out of the box, and the fact that it supports UMA(to boost phone signal using wifi).
