OEMs? Why? They get revenue from selling new phones, not updating old ones.
Carriers? Why? They get revenue from people renewing their subscriptions/contracts, and that means new phones.
Google? Why? Google get revenue from ads, so you can use Eclair for all they care, they still get money from you.

In short, there's no real financial incentive for anybody to do anything.

    This is a marketing scam, they said "60% form the compatible devices", hence if you take the overall percentage, where you still have devices such as iPhone 4 and 4s, first some generations of iPads and so on, you'll get an even lower value.

    Indeed they manage to update more devices than others, but this 60% is more inflated than Venezuela's economy ...

          There is a logical reason for opting 10.
          It actually occupies less memory than its predecessors and frees up the storage on device.
          Hence, all those with 16 gig model will be first to update,since it frees up 1 gb of space on device.
          Add on that, due to optimisation,it works fine for at least 2 to 3 past iPhone generations.
