The PlayStation Phone goes by XPERIA Play, launches in April

21 December, 2010
The long rumored Sony Ericsson PlayStation phone won't be announced on CES next month, but on the MWC 11 in February. It will hit the stores in April under the name of XPERIA Play. Quite some news, right...

The phone is official, no rumor.

go to Sony Ericsson website, the Phones section and click the Features filter button and from the menu that opens up, tick the PlayStation™ remote play feature.

        There you go.

This phone, I believe should have an OS other than the Android. I'm slightly skeptical as to whether or not games can be made for Android which could be as powerful as those PSP games. I thought (and still think) that Android gaming is synonymous with casual gaming !!!

As always, the proof of the pudding will be in the software. But if SE makes an effort to encourage software developers it can really bridge the mobile-gaming and mobile-communications markets. Maybe it'll be a bigger success than PSP for that very fact.

IMHO SE/Sony should have this as their primary mobile-gaming platform, the successor to the PSP. Then develop a proper tablet-sized tablet (7"+) for more serious web-browsing, productivity, media and casual gaming. Perhaps with Android 3?

This will go the same way as the Discontinued N-Gage.
Six months we will be asking Sony Ericsson PlayStation phone did they ever exist & what the hell did they look like again? As some people are asking NOW!!
Also will they have cartridge games like N-Gage or download I wonder?

I am very open to getting this regardless of not having a keypad. To me though is the CPU power and the browser as well. But I hardly use my phone for calls, lol. Mostly messaging and browsing the web.

If I know SE, & I think I do, this phone will be way over-priced, lack in features, & will be an all out failure.

SE are the only ones that seem to under perform even more than Nokia these days.

Is it going to support PSN games? I seriously doubt it. I think it'll be merely an Android smartphone aimed to provide better gaming control, similar to what you get with a Droid/Milestone with the clip-on gamepad. It's not meant to replace the PSP or the upcoming PSP2. So it'll merely be an Android smartphone able to provide some gaming entertainment.

Hardware-wise, unless it goes at least Tegra it'll be quickly left behind...

But knowing Sony they will probably release psp2 with onboard 3G a few months later making the xperia phone obsolete. I'm not going buy the phone unless they announce some kick ass game specific for the device.

I m into this thing. Having n95 n ipod touch already, android delivers newness to me. And as other droids offer me no new game (over my ipod catalogue), i wud better take a gamble with xperia-play. I m not a fan-boy of any brand or os,n simply dont find too much wisdom in sticking to monotony (in name of loyalty).
