The PlayStation Phone goes by XPERIA Play, launches in April

The long rumored Sony Ericsson PlayStation phone won't be announced on CES next month, but on the MWC 11 in February. It will hit the stores in April under the name of XPERIA Play. Quite some news, right...

This phone is going to be a success, it has months before its release to update its hardware and software and to kick off with a range of new games. I'm not going to say it'll live up to PSP or other gaming console but it's bringing new potential unlike any other phone announced or rumoured so far this year. I can't wait to see what will happen. Let's stop moaning and be optimistic, we can criticize after its release. I am curious, though, with how the battery is going to survive.

    Somebody told here that se won't support this device with too many nice games. Really? Paul the octopus? Mate, that sort of history goes with only NGage2, n do i need to name the brand it was associated with? Its d same u r probably stuck with;)

      Don't write off this phone. It is unique in its own kind, so surely it will find its customer base. Se-haters, stick to ur brand than spitting venom here. U r not buying it,so it doesn't mean this phone is fail.

          By the time this phone is release, it will be a DOA phone (game)
          1. Slow OS, probably Android Froyo or max with gingerbread. Thank SE for slowiness of update.
          2. Weak CPU. It probably use 1gh snapdragon like My Touch HD.
          3. Specification.. Assume mostly will be
          1ghz-1.2 snapdragon 2nd generation.
          5-8mpx w/720 video capture
          512mb memory.
          The reason I am assuming these are the max spec. because SE try to save money on productions, lower the cost.
          How are they able to sell a phone at $600 like it used to be?
          BTW, if you guys have not notice I am not sure this psp phone can play dreamcast emulator once DarkAlex release.
          Don't know about you, I wait for dual core processor, at least tegar 2

            I so badly want to see this phone succeed. I am a fan of Sony and don't mind playing PS1 classics like on my PSP. Until I saw the benchmark test where even a Nexus One outclaased it in frame rates, I lost interest. Wait for a better version to come along. What this phone needs is TEGRA 2 and not another Qualcomm chip. Please SE, use Nvidia's dual core chip for far better battery management. I feel this product feels rushed and will easily get outclassed by better phones in 2011 considering it already is getting dusted by 2010 phones. Sorry SE, maybe next time.

              i have a playstation 3, psp, xbox 360, game boy colour, nintendo dsi, sega, but that's not stopping me to be excited about this phone...
              you guys are just plain stupid to complain about EVERYTHING!
              if YOU don't like the phone then don't buy it, is anyone asking or forcing you to?
              spend you're time doing something better, go out, make some friends,cause with this kind of attitude & hatred, soon you'll be all alone...UNLESS you already got friends that are JUST like you...

                  SE making strange decitions. the main phone of 2011 is supposedly this SE XPERIA PLAY (1GHz, 512Ram, And2.3, out in april, nothing special hardwarevise and a late relese date to). Just one of the first phones from LG in 2011 will be the dual-core Optumux 2x wich wil trash xperia play. what is SE thinking?! nothing???

                    Awaiting for the official announcement of this phone. I hv n95-2, so don't need another symbian phone. Looking for an android device which offers me sth extra or new, ie over n above n95 n my ipod touch functionalities.

                          Perfect screen with hich resolution and is very very appropriate on hands . u cant stop playing with it .
                          We all know that Sony Ericsson is BEST : Camera phone , Music phone , Game phone ,Quality phone .

                              There's one annoying about Sony Ericsson mobile phone...is the battery! Sony Ericsson seem not being honest about battery consuming at all. Battery seem to run out so fast than what it suppose to be.

                                  The phone might faill if it has resistive touch screen. I still remember how bad the Satio resistive screen was compared to capacitive screens.
