Apple fans thinking that this news proves iphone is better... N8 does SO much more than iphone, it is unquestionably a better phone in terms of capabilities. However iphones have a cult following and therefore will always have many sales in the first few months. N8 hasn't been out very long, people should expect its sales to keep steady while iphones will slowly drop.

Mark, 30 Dec 2010@q23Q See the little link titled 'Source' at the bottom ... moreWell first of all, that source article is not in english. Secondly, that one graph does show the n8 outpacing the galaxy s, but where and as to what? Can you provide us a link in english that shows the galaxy s have sold less than 3.5 million worldwide? I am sure that the galaxy s have sold already more than 5 million units. So that graph that shows the n8 outpacing the galaxy s, must be for something else, or only to a particular place where nokia is still popular, lol.

Nokia sells twice more smartphones and more than 10 times in total. Nokia just doesn't just make expensive phones, they make phones for everyone.. From the poor to the very rich(does Vertu ring any bells)???

Moreover, N8 costs more to manufacture than the iPhone4 at the factory.. So it is clear which phone is overprized.. Also, N8 has more functionalities than the iPhone4...

Nonikhanna, 30 Dec 2010just like deep space bar, i am from canada and have been us... moreI'm from Canada as well. My last two phones were Nokias. The 6126 was the best phone I ever used. Unfortunately, the N97 was the worse smartphone ever even though as a phone, it was pretty good. Just too many errors and issues when using smartphone features.

I think Nokia is improving their smartphone products with the N8. I still think they have a ways to go as their browser still needs some improvement. The N8 feels like a transition product to me. They need something that allows them to stay in the game and make it easier for users and developers to move to Meego (via Qt). Apple and Android seem to be product leaders for the high end smartphone market in my mind. Nokia and to an extent RIM seems to be playing catch up.

In fairness, the iPhone 4 is demolishing the N8 sales wise in the UK which is fine because it's a decent bit of kit and gets a lot of coverage and advertising. That said, the N8 is doing OK here although probably not as well as in continental Europe. As far as the SGS and Desire go though it's beating them sales wise over here.

To be honest I'm not that bothered about volume as long as it's enough to convince developers that there's a market for Qt which it seems to be doing. I bought my N8 for the feature set and whilst the forthcoming UI updates will be nice that remains its attraction. I don't want an Android phone because the SGS and HTC Desire have power management issues and I don't want an iPhone because, whilst it does a lot of things well, it just isn't that good as a phone. Plus, of course, it's a bit over popular these days.

Ultimately people should buy what's right for them. Just don't assume your choices are the same as everyone else's.

just like deep space bar, i am from canada and have been using nokia since 2006. Actually i have only used nokia phones. And i disagree with people saying that nokia is for europe and third world countries. The reason why nokia isnt the superpower of the cellphone world is because they hadnt jumped into smartphoned properly yet. They had made smartphones but they were not upto the level of the iphone and blackberry. But now with the n8, they have started to make high end phones with a good price. and i have to say the n8 is definetly amazing. :)
