To be more enviornmental friendly, after some time manufacturers should stop giving micro USB charger and data cable with new phone, as in some time almost every mobile phone user will be having those from there old phone also it will bring down the cost some what and reduce the size of the phone packing.

Philbert, 31 Dec 2010Another stupid move by companies that should know better. ... moreIt is difficult not to agree. THe mini usb was not too big and very sturdy. I have never heard about a phone with a broken mini usb charging port. MIcro's are really so flimsy. I had an old HTC phone (Star Trek) and I loved it until the charging port came out.

Megalord, 30 Dec 2010Would you care to eloborate regarding the micro-usb woes yo... moremy motorola got worn off, thereafter charging became a balancing act, i had to apply some calculated pressure at an angle to get the phone charged. The nokia one yanked off the socket completely. Had to charge it using universal battery chargers by removing the battery.
This will also lead to battery destruction. Batteries will be charged regardless of necessity, even when the battery is half empty, which is bad. We need both usb and proprietary charging.

Anonymous, 02 Jan 2011Are you sure you didn't get confused with mini usb...which ... moreNah, I also have a mini-usb for the printer, it has a square socket that is larger than both A and B mini-usb cables.
According to wikipedia the type A micro-USB is "deprecated" in favor of type B, but if you take a walk in a store you'll see type A is still alive and well - probably makers keep using A for backward compatibility.
Actually I wasn't even aware of the existance of type B cables until I tried to stick one of my "regular" (ie A) micro USB cables into my new Optimus One, then I realized thay I had to use the cable that came with the phone, which does have a large "B" printed on the phone-side socket (and looks like the pics of B cables I found on the web) while the phone was charging.
Bottom line, when shopping for a new phone it is better to check out what sort of micro-USB the phone comes with (not sure whether the Euro regulation mandate a specific type btw), and if necessary get some extra cables (and car chargers!) of the same type. Beats being unable to recharge the phone at work after a show off session with the colleagues... ;)

[deleted post]there is also no "sourcing" english word in any dictionary...but everyone in logistics/purchasing/manufacturing planning industry are using this as a standard word. 50 years ago there was no word like "internet" and so many other technical terms. learn to accept that all languages specially english is dynamic and keeps on changing. don't get stuck with the words like "thee, thou, art, etc."
