Did they solidly concluded that the cause of explosion is the gap? NO. They just suggested the most probable cause based on their teardown. If they can easily found the cause of explosion then Samsung would have found out much earlier instead of being perplexed and grasping at straws. I still stand by that the Note 7 explosions are planned sabotage.

Just go and try to find any phone with that kind of gap in the battery compartment.. That kind of gap will cause the battery to move and shake like a maracas

This is the stupidity of aiming at 3mm thick phones. Every person I speak with says they would rather have a 2-3 mm thicker phone than a thinner phone with smaller battery. Of course the manucacturers know better and instead of giving you better battery life they offer you the same at best with newer phone iterations.
I hope Samsung's example will be also helpful for other companies in theie phone design process.

i know one phone with very tight battery arrangement, its the lenovo a7000. Then can someone explain to me why this one doesn't have an exploding issue?

Omg what's a cheap excuse! . I mean if the battery was the problem why they didn't replace the batteries with onw with 1mm smaller size or something ????

from my experience with samsung, all samsung (phones and tablets) always had problem related with battery (device chare very slowly even not charging at all), even before note7 fiasco.. when I bring to samsung service center, at least 40% people there had battery related issues.. while sony, LG, lenovo device I used havent any problem at all

I went S7 due to specs, SD slot and ip68... but would have happily got behind ANYTHING if it were thicker with a 5000mah battery

It's like the glossy black plastic ten years ago, everyone knows it attracts fingerprints but in the showroom under the lights, it'll just look better.

People not only wanted a functioning smartphone, but a pretty one as well. Form over function as they said. This had been demostrated by Samsung itself when they released the Galaxy Note edge. Although it is unique and it had lots and lots of function to it's edge display, it wasn't attractive and it didn't sell well because of it.
And by the time the more beautifully design Galaxy S6 edge came along, it had quickly became the most popular smartphone at the time. Even though the edge doesn't nearly had all the function like on the Note Edge, but people buy it. Why? Because it's attractive and the looks suit the high end price. Again, form over function
So the way I put it, a slimmer smartphone is a more attractive smartphone than a bulky and heavy one. It's one of many companies ways to raise their sales. Make their product a fashion statement.
