The biggest issue with this isn't the need for adapters for your old headphones.. it's that these ports have a limited lifespan. Plugging and unplugging so many times wears out the port, it's a fairly common problem with charging ports on smartphones... now you have two peripherals sharing the same port so it will wear down twice as fast. I don't see how this is acceptable to the engineers and developers working on these phones.

That's right Samsung, keep copying what Apple do and just maybe your handsets won't explode.

AnonD-210527, 08 Dec 2016It is wrong because they are making simpler than simple. Th... moreFrom the stories I have read & the tear downs of the iPhone 7/7+ I have seen I fail to see how the removal of the jack made the phone that little bit thinner that the last iPhone. I have seen a hack where someone was able to fit the 3.5mm jack from inside a 6s & fit into the 7 with no issues. Behind the speaker looking grill is practically nothing, which is a shame as I would of liked that space put to good use.

If this had been 4-5 years ago & there was not many solutions to not having the port, them yes, I would be as mad as the next consumer but I have not used the headphone port on my phone for years & I am more than happy with the solutions I have using either Bluetooth headphones or a Bluetooth adaptor so that I can use my wired head/earphones.

AnonD-322352, 07 Dec 2016The thing is, there's no better audio port than the 3.5mm jack. What about the Philips M2L Lightning Headphones? I have not tried them yet but I hear they are impressive & there are a host of options that you can use to configure the sound how you want the sound to be. Decent price as well in the UK.

BTW, this is not me sticking up for Apple, this is a genuine comment about an alternative to the 3.5mm jack & how it shapes up if anyone knows.

uttu, 07 Dec 2016LoL... another iphone wannabe! :Dyou do realize that there are many phones that use propietary port instead of 3.5mm jack long before the iphone, don't you?
ie: Nokia was using Pop Port, Ericsson was using Fastport, Siemens, Motorola, LG, even Samsung itself was using propietary comm port for their WinMo-powered smartphones.
so, who's the real wannabe here?

SJM32, 07 Dec 2016How is it the wrong path when the iPhone 7/7+ is not all th... moreIt is wrong because they are making simpler than simple. They are removing useful things.

IPhone 7 is slimmer than iPhone 6. Not because iPhone 6 is too thick but because apple is obsessed with slimmer design. Future might be wireless buy you don't push it on consumers. First introduce wireless headphones with phones and than decide if people can work without audio jack.

There are already enough things to charge and now I need to recharge headphones too? Or do I need to carry adapters with me?

The latest Instrumental report says, Note 7 exploded due to lack of enough space for the battery to swell during normal usage. If they even remove the favorite 3.5mm jack, and make it more thin, then will the battery get more space or more explosions ?

Wireless: Huh? Wireless... yeah grab it and connect to your phone.. done.
Oppps, out of battery, wait till it charges completely then.

Jack: Hi, there. just plug-in and play. out of battery? never a problem. Why complicating life when there are easier way to do it.

I am so eager to get the S8 as I think SS will put all the good things in it to gain customers trust back, so I get the benefits. But this will make me reconsider my options.

Well, 3.5 jack is nice to have, but omission is not always referred to wireless.
You can always find a decent extDAC with reasonable price (sub $50) that I believe has better SQ compared to iPhone 6s or SGS 7.

Only somebody with keen ears can differ wire against wireless SQ. Don't worry much if you're not into audiophiles. Later, Bluetooth 5.0 may bring a new face for SQ world.
