11 January, 2011
One of every two Android smartphones out there now runs the version 2.2 of the operating system. And while Froyo already accounts for 51.8% of all droids, 2.3 Gingerbread has the miniscule market share of...

kodn, 12 Jan 2011It is NOT google's fault. It is the phone company's fault, ... moreIf the problem was phone's UI, then why x10 can only run 2.1, but x12 run 2.3??

you gotta rock rooted g1 at 2.2.1 and yes tmobile to blame for the fail. this 1.6 phone could easily run 2.1 and make people happy

Anonymous, 11 Jan 2011sorry but this is not fair .. everyday new version of andr... moreIt is NOT google's fault. It is the phone company's fault, since they are the one responsible for making their devices upgradeable. For the X10, it is SE's fault, since they are not fast enough in making the updates.

Remember, when google releases the update of the OS, all phone companies immediately get it, but the companies are the ones who make the upgrades usable on their phones, since the phone does not directly support the upgrade. The company itself needs to edit and tweak some things from the upgrade to make it compatible. The main reason is the UI, which differs from phone company to phone company.

yesucan, 12 Jan 2011Thas why i prefer good old HTC HD2 :-) now running Android ... moreMan the HTC HD2 will run anything under the sun nowadays, that's got be on of the most modified phones in the world. It's specs are so high it'll be awhile before something comes out that it can't handle. I say by like May or so whenever the onslaught of 3.0 Honeycomb tablets start showing up, those guys over at XDA Developers will have an old HD2 running Andriod 3.0, just because it can do it lol.

It certainly does not look like this in the Canadian market. Only a handful of phones are on an official 2.2 update, the rest are 2.1 or less. Terrible. It is totally the carriers fault here.

I'm agree with the precious commnet. By updating your software too often (and sadly not every phone was able to upgrade), It looks like you kill yourself mr droid...

Anonymous, 11 Jan 2011sorry but this is not fair .. everyday new version of andr... moreThat's really not google's problem is it?
If you wanted constant updates, you'd get the nexus.

Who do you have to blame for being versions behind?
                            1. Phone manufacturers for not issuing updates.
                            2. Your local carriers to blame for not taking the manufacturer's updates and publishing to their customers.
                            3. Yourself, You should sell your phone and upgrade if you really don't want to be left behind.

You've got 3 parties to blame before blaming google.

Ugggh. The media and just about everybody else doesn't get it. Upgrades aren't supposed to happen right away. They take about 6 months to happen.

The whole point of the Nexus line though is to offer stock Android handsets for developers. This gives them time to develop apps, so that when an OS version goes mainstream there's apps that make use of the new OS version.
