Regardless of what processor sony uses, their phones are butter smooth. Let it be even intense gaming or the UI. Didn't expect my Xperia X to be much smoother and solid than my S7. But we still love to see our phones put a good benchmark score too.

I rather have smaller capable phone and a cheaper screenmirror/miracast/dlna tablet or tv for occasional bigger screen game or movie experience.
But yes, its a preference.
Although seeing people talking on 6 inch phablets is kinda hilariously funny.
An extra earphone gadget is good solution for phablets tho.

I've used an XA Ultra already, and while I do think it's great to have a large screen, it still doesn't make me bothered going back to small ones, and I do have large hands btw. Well that's just typical preference, some people love small phones, and some love large ones, but I'm still fine with any size as long as they're usable in every angle I hold it

Used this 6" Nexus for 1.5 years now and refuse to go back to small phones. They aren't comfortable enough for me to use. :) But small-handed people probably can't use a 6-incher without problems, though.
