It's 2017, but in exynos's case it is like 1997. No wonder they bumped the number by just 5 , even them know that cpu would be slower and only gpu would be faster.

First generation that Exynos does not get a bump in numbering, that tells you something. The migration to 10nm was disastrous, it almost cut off performance.

Anonymous, 04 Jan 2017Nor in CPU, if they use their same old architectureThe core is a built on Cortex licensed design. So it is a slightly tweaked ARM Cortex core design, not a Qualcomm custom core design like the Kryo in the SD820. Which Cortex it is based on is anyone's guess at this point, but likely either A72 or A73, which is disappointing since they're no where near the single thread performance like the Hurricanes in the A10.
We've already seen A72's performance in Kirin950 and Helio X20 and they are slower than the current Kryo and Mongoose. Since this is the first build on Cortex design, I guess we'll have to wait and see how much customizations can affect performance/power/efficiency.

Later this year when Apple put the A11 on the 10nm process, and can squeeze another core or 2 on the die... Apple will likely own both the single thread and multi-thread crown.

On a side note, disappointed that the LITTLE cores are not the ultra power efficient A35. I'd much rather have extra power savings on the background tasks cores. May be they're using A53s to bump up multi-thread benchmarks.

Battery life troubles 72% of users under that research. The 42% in their material is either a massive typo, or they wanted to skew it because battery life will not be improved due to doubling the amount of cores, and 25% battery saving is per core..

As the article says, Snapdragon 835 has the same architecture as Snapdragon 820. This means the only thing that improves the performance is the move from 14nm process to 10nm. That is the only one real improvement in SD835.

AnonD-387177, 04 Jan 2017Ah guys guys. Now now, dont be a fools. 1) 2,45ghz is h... moreAnd that's useless. The only reason why they added 4 more cores to SD835 is multi-core benchmarks, because most people are primitive and they only look for the highest number they can find in any benchmarks: the multi-core performance. And in multi core, the Exynos 8890 with 8 cores is better than Snapdragon 820. But these people forget about the fact that single core performance is much more important. And in single core, the Snapdragon 820 is better than Exynos 8890.

So the reason why Qualcomm didn't improve anything, just added 4 more cores is to beat the competition in multi-core benchmarks.
