AnonD-387177, 04 Jan 2017When Kirin comes to 10nm it will be better than all others.... moreThe Kirin 965 and/or Kirin 970 will probably be one of the best of 2017, and eat the SD835 without salt.

So does this mean that the 835 will support wider colour gamut and real HDR?
Still disappointed by the little love to the sound DAC though...

It won't be the worst Exynos release since forever...

Qualcomm is a semi monopoly and like many monopolies abuses its position to release similar SoCs year after year. If her monopoly is not checked she will turn into the Intel of the mobile world. I.E. few gains for a bumped number, forcing people to buy their bad chips.
Seriously I hope Mediatek won't become like AMD , merely accepting her fate as the 2nd fiddle. Now that Qualcomm is slowing down, it is the time to overtake it, make them pay for bad engineering.
IT only succeeds in a competitive environment. Everyone and his dog selecting Qualcomm hurts consumers. We already see how bad it get with the lazy SD 820 release (it solved overheating but was not that much more powerful in raw performance) and now SD835

Kryo 280,will have 1,9ghz A530probably which means that sn835 already tops Exynos 8890 in multi core. It is made on 10nm which means it is even better than 14nm or 16nm. Main cores will be similiar in power. Sn835 should have 2000 geekbench easily, in mc more than 7000. Antutu should be around 170k if there will be right optimizations on Nougat. My xperia xz hits 144k on antutu with sn820 and nougat android.

I'm starting to like the processor, but to be honest, I still prefer the Kirin 960. Can't wait for the Kirin 965 or Kirin 970.

Anonymous, 04 Jan 2017I just hope they upgraded their Audio DAC significantly. I... moreWho knows if that will happen...with the current trend (albeit stupid, and in no way innovative yet) of companies ditching a 3.5mm jack, there's less reason to do so. If you want a high quality DAC the LG V series has been calling on ESS to build high quality Hi-Fi DACs for those phones, and in the case of the V20, also called B&O to tune.

It was shown that single handedly, the single performance integer of all the other processors (power cores) beat the M1 or matched them one way or the other. Its totally logical to believe the 835 Kryo 280 high performance cores will beat or at worst slightly above the previous generation of Mongoose cores.

DealBreaker, 04 Jan 2017IP rating wrecks the sound quality...Note2 was not water wa... moreIP rating covering the speaker has nothing to do with audio DAC driving headphone output.
Even the water proof S7 and S7 Exynos models have far superior sound. Cause Qualcomm has a built in audio DAC to the Snapdragon SoC. So models with it use their integrated one. Some phones have slightly better amps connected to it but that can only help so much.
In the models with Exynos SoC Samsung has to come up with one. So they turn to Wolfson which makes premium audio.
I understand Qualcomm is not a premium audio company and Samsung could use a slightly better amp..... But Qualcomm could really really step up their game in this department quite a lot. It's one of the areas they have really really really lagged behind.

This SoC was literally just announced. Those mongooses are compared to the S820 from a year ago and will have their own relevant cores to compare to the S835 here soon.
Saying that these new ones top the mongoose referring to last years makes no sense.
