16 January 2017
The Galaxy S8 should be about the size of the current S7 but with a screen bigger than the S7 edge.

regs, 16 Jan 2017Is it a joke? 142 mm is nowhere near a compact phones. That... moreMy Nexus 6 is 159 mm tall and while I can't really reach all the way to the corner of the phone, I find it pretty easy to use with one hand. Typing can be done with only one hand while the other is free, though people with smaller hands would disagree. 142 mm is nowhere near a "shovel" or being even distantly "big", only in your imagination perhaps. And bigger screen makes typing only easier, not the other way around. :)

Anonymous, 16 Jan 2017So sad. These dimensions imply 16:9 aspect ratio which is s... moreYou're wrong. The on screen buttons don't have to always be there. If done properly they never have to be there except when you need them. The same goes for the Mi Mix, for a lot of apps they aren't there so you get an awkward 17:9 display, or if you watch videos they are always there so you get 16:9 and pointless on-screen buttons that take up screen estate for no reason.

And your nonsense about 4k is garbage. It has nothing to do with PPI, which is the important thing.

People are so quick to just believe what they are seeing, without even asking questions. Some are complaining, yet there is no proof these are genuine, in fact to me the numbers suggest that they are fake. The media often fool people with 7 code, and there is plenty here.

I would be amazed if Samsung make them so wide, especially the Plus at 78.51, which goes against their recent trend of narrow phones. That would make it wider then the iPhone 7 Plus. Add those numbers together for 21, which is 777 their favourite hoax code.

Also, why would they use microSD when even the new A series has USB-C?

The Plus just looks like the prototype used in the Samsung Display adverts. I think they are winding people up with this one.

The high Screen to body ratio is exciting news! Not so sure about the old USB type-B connector, considering Samsung already committed to it in the Note 7 and the new Gear VR. Let's hope that hole in the side is a 3.5mm headphone jack....

So samsung take a lead in flagship style again. Nothing against apple/sony/other copy phones but they could be more creative and cone with Flagship thats not just specs upgrade and almost same style.

Seems like the big market demand for  big phone is still getting bigger that's why Samsung is doing this the only problem is people who are less and demand little phone or normal ones are gonna get the stick in 2017 imo, a market should be inclusive of all sizes and specs just like laptops for example u can find an i7 in a 11 inch or a 17 that's diversity and the dying in 2017

So sad. These dimensions imply 16:9 aspect ratio which is so awkward using on screen buttons, also it implies 1440p screen (yet again).

If they had use 17:9 ratio (like mi mix), they would be able to use the same screen size in much narrower phones (s8 plus would be more like 152x75) which is very important for one handed use.

Also soft buttons would not waste any useful screen (you still get a full 16:9 with buttons on).

Red and most important. 17:9 implies 4096x2160 screen , which is true 4k (none of those 3840x2160 silliness). Using true 4k would mean greater VR (more than 110 degrees), retina effect on VR! (No visible screen door or pixels).

Combined with fact that it was supposed to use USB C and of course the fast switching pixels of amoleds you could connect it with a pC and act as the best VR headset for Vive/Rift gaming, with no real latency (due to the above two) andbest optics in the whole industry. Vridge would of done the rest.

Basically the only reason to buy S8 plus, the first device that does not look like a$$ when in VR.

Now that they dropped USB c and that they back to 1440p (for 4th year in a row) S8 is a pass to me. We live in the era of VR and Samsung should have known better...
