I need to say something here.
As Lenovo acquired Motorola, overall quality of their phones improved significantly.
Specially those in the lover and middle specs range. Look @ P1 for example, or some lover spec'ed phones like P70 and P1m etc. Cheap Lenovo phones are probably the best in 'Cheap phone category'. Far better than Doogee, UMi, Elephone and even some Xiaomi models.
And there's Vibe X3 - probably the best underestimated and overlooked phone ever!

As for Moto, I personally think both Z and Z Play were exciting and very good phones (specially Z Play as good bang for a buck). Keep in mind that those phones are equally as good as ZTE's or Huawei's.
Moto G4 line is very good also and beats Samsung, HTC and Sony in that department by quiet a margin.

And yes, I own Lenovo P2 (4GB/32GB variant - manufactured by Motorola's factory in China) - except for the cameras, the phone is a beast (2+ days of battery autonomy, good sound quality, fast and snappy as Galaxy S6).

Hence Lenovo/Motorola phones are very good - IDK people are pissing on them so often?!

AnonD-436505, 18 Jan 2017Since when does average joe look at the processor and go " ... morePeople left Nokia after that piece of crap N97, so many including myself were disappointed, my partner at the time had a iPhone 3gs I think, no way in hell would I admit to her that I envied it, but for so long I wanted Nokia so bad to release THE IPHONE KILLER. Never happened, tried to make Symbian more user friendly, but too little too late.

My first modern SmartPhone was a HTC desire I didn't know about specs because symbian never was about processor speeds or cores, it was more about features.

Motorola, well I don't know how they dropped the ball, most consumers have forgotten what they gave us in the past.

They killed Motorola. After less than a year my Moto G3 will not get upgraded to Nougat.

Most average consumer looks at what everyone else has and goes and buys that.

I'm the biggest Nokia fan but I can't see them overtaking Samsung in a sea of Android's. Most of their customers will be people like me who will buy anything with that logo or grew up with one in the past.

Anonymous, 17 Jan 2017you mention crap? ohh that's why Motorola is like hot cake ... moreYou realize people who usually care a lot about firmware updates are cheap people who wanna hold on to their phones for years. Most people buy the phone for what it is and as long as it works well, they don't care much about software updates. In fact, they rather not have it in case it breaks anything like making the battery life worse. And selling a flagship phone cheap will eventually bleed the company dry unless the company has groundbreaking features that others don't.

Since Lenovo started to sell Motorola phones with cheap and low quality components such as Mediatek processors, no wonder nobody is interested in their products. They simply lack vision at this moment when it comes to using a well known brand of a smartphone. It's like those days when Microsoft bought and used the Nokia brand but did not know how to use it in their advantage.

A layman's perspective- For me, Lenovo has done more bad than good to Motorola. I bought a phone last week and i made sure it was the Moto G3 Turbo. G4 generation and above, sans the g4 plus version, is so very badly executed. I did some research before my purchase last week and boy was I shocked to see images of battery burns and phone explosions in amazon site. I personally love Moto phones and I have friends in India still holding on to their 1st and 2nd gen Moto G phones. Sadly bad execution and safety concerns is killing a resurgent Moto brand :(

The premium market belongs to Apple and followed by Samsung.

The budget segment is for xiaomi.

What lenovo should focus on is the mid segment.

Give high end specs with mid tier prices and the market is yours.

Give what the consumers want, dual sim with dedicated SD slot and front facing speakers.

No doubt it will be difficult.
With so many unwanted phone versions, it is surely going to kill the company.

Just max. Of 2 iterations in each segment ( 2 in X/Z family,2 in G family and 2 in E family ) is enough. No need to have M's and C's. And for God sake don't have pathetic mettalic Design like Moto M.

Best way to get out of RED will be to work on fewer phones with quality and adhereing to design team of Motorola ( not lenovo ).
