23 January 2017
Battery design was to blame in original units, manufacturing defect in replacements.

That is what I knew from the start. New thinner battery, that has worse quality and need space like the old. Lower mah than they should have given, and that is the curse for screwing the battery for the look.

Whoever said it was a design defect better do humanity a favor and go crawl under a rock. And if samsung wanted to save face instead of spilling the truth, they'd never have bothered with multiple third party companies sharing in the investigation.

Anonymous, 23 Jan 2017eight points inspection. wow. they really learn from their ... moreDoubt it each & every battery of each & every upcoming Samsung phone will go through such rigorous tests maybe initially but after some time only for the flagships or just the main tests only. Not a Samsung hater just saying bc it will cost a lot of money & additional manpower

Battery has always been a problem for Samsung phones, even their entry level and mid range level suffer from swelling. It's more prevalent on Samsung phones.

sr777, 23 Jan 2017Now the cause is identified, why don't they restart selling... moreExactly, but doubt that the phone has no fault whatsoever dont think they will be 100% transparent to protect reputation. If they are speaking truth however they still would.nt want to relaunch due to all the bad press and they might not want to give them a chance again imo. That is why they are having such large display S8s to assuage the customers of the Note 7 absence

Now the cause is identified, why don't they restart selling Note 7 with new batteries? Even small batches of N7 would be great.

Design defect got replaced with manufacturing defect. Sounds like a real incompetent company.

To make it short, rushed product and very poor quality control. Asian companies want to churn the assembly line fast or asap without thinking hazarduous outcomes. That's Samsung for you.

Of course the problem was the same in both. .01mm is not enough room for battery expansion.
