Ludwik, 04 Feb 2011And how do Google know what version we are using? I assume... morehahaha, i like ur comment ludwik. by the what the fuck is this, why google is worried about its gingerbread,s low percentage. actually shit is by google itself bcz google itself is not giving free and complete gingerbread update to all froyo devices, otherwise who want to be outdated. google has limited its gingerbread update to only some device so gingerbread score is low.

AnonD-291, 05 Feb 2011well google comes to know about your firmware when u update... moreMan, you guys need to research a little. Ever heard of a "user-agent"?!

Now, let's assume that most of us use GOOGLE to search for web content... what do you think Google can track WITHOUT ever needing to access your phone?

That's it - the user agent. It gets sent with every http request from your device. That's how they know the market penetration of their Android versions.

Here's what one would look like:

                User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Linux; U; Android 2.1-update1; en-us; ADR6300 Build/ERE27) AppleWebKit/530.17 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/4.0 Mobile Safari/530.17

You need to have flash 10.1 on Froyo. I don't think Flash Lite 4 on Eclair will cut it. I might be wrong though.

Ludwik, 04 Feb 2011And how do Google know what version we are using? I assume... moreGoogle DOES NOT need to know what version you are using. It doesn't matter what version you are using. All that matters is if your phone has been officially upgraded to 2.1 or 2.2

It is your choice to upgrade or not but that does not mean the update is not there for you.

Android is king at the moment, and I'm seriously considering the Galaxy S 2 over the N8. Why? A more established OS. Nokia need to get into gear and sort itself out. Talking about Meego and Symbian 4 only going to devalue Symbian 3.

Don't get me wrong, as an iphone owner who previously had a N86, I am really missing a good camera, but what's on offer from HTC and Samsung, is too tempting to pass up.

They know what android version your phone has because they know what phone has what firmware on it. when you register your phone with your Google account, your model and make of the phone is registered too. That is how the magic works.
