Just because it's useless to you, doesn... moreIn order to have that camera module to work properly, it would have to be thick and heavy with real large lens groups to provide focus. By the time everything is said and done, you're pretty much buying a mirrorless SLR. And unless you plan to always have that attached to your phone, you'd be pretty much carrying an extra "camera" around all the time, but one that will most certainly come with less quality and function as a real camera. I mean after all, would you really think a phone company (that makes low to mid range phones) can make a great professional grade camera?

I'd welcome the likes of Moto Z, only problem is that there are not enough modules. It would be nice to have a module with a large photo sensor, and not the Hasselblad crap that was released, which is worse than the built in camera.
A 24mp 1" with a 35mm equivalent prime would be my dream module. But it also shouldn't cost an arm and a leg. Otherwise it makes more sense just to buy a Sony RX100 Mk1 for $350-$400

i really wish IF all smartphones had SAME modular compatibility... It sucks that one module can be used with one Device... Why not make it compatible with multiple devices? we would like to be able to swap processors, DACs, display to the newer ones like we do with pc. We need more ram? let's just add more. We want better display? just change monitor so in this case we would be switching displays... I really hoped and wanted to see project ARA to be a thing... But Google must always destroy good projects...

Way before Apple, Alcatel already has its concept phones by using AA batteries to power up your phone.
Think it is time for Alcatel to shake up and chase after the race. We have Apple from USA, Samsung from Korea, Sony from Japan and why not something from Eiffel Tower ?

I like that colorful-lit back to be honest! Something different that the stale iPhone-esque back that is overused in so many smartphones these days...

I like Alcatel phones. For the first time I have used Alcatel phone is the Idol 4S and I love it so much. I like the build, the speakers, and the display. The screen is crazy bright with popping colours. It is going to take me a little longer with Alcatel.

$350, fine. Modular, fine. But not the Idol 5. I was actually hoping to buy an Idol 5 in the class of the 6x, v8 pro, and moto g5- assuming the I5 wasn't going to be stuck on cricket this year. I'm gonna to tell myself $350/modular is a different phone and that a regular Idol 5 still exists...
